the developer is a bit of worry, they haven't made any great/good games till now. their games list ; Armies of Exigo - 71.48% Warhammer: Mark of Chaos- 73.99% Warhammer: Mark of Chaos - Battle March - 64.70% I have only played Armies of Exigo ,which was an okayish game which I would only recommend if you have lots of free time

I am seeing chinese or japanese letters on that site. Is the Heroes series big in Asia?

I think we also need a Might and Magic 10.

yes, it is most likely an official HoMM probaly will be announced at gamescom. Those images and trailer were on some other site but were removed. Few of the fans were able to save a copy of the video and images.

Images are present on other sites also like : http://www.acidcave.net/?newsnb=515#515(polish) etc

I loved the detailed units and the art design, but why only wood, stone, gem and gold? Where's the sulfur, mercury and crystals? Dumbed down Heroes incoming?

that would be a minus.... ...but a female good necromancer protagonist would rock.

Wasn't army of exigo's only fault being that it did nothing new? I remember a review that said something along the lines of it being the fantasy based starcraft with the production values of the 2004.

Amazing level of detail for a 3D strategy game. I just don't get why they'd convert to a square grid. A hexagonal grid allows a lot of tricks and tactics, with regards to movement and unit placement, that a chess-style grid does not. Civilization is going from square to hexagonal, and these guys are going back to square?? Other than that, it's hard to tell how good a strat game is based on screenshots. The resources look dumbed down, which is a mistake. Hoping it's not all graphics and no substance.

They never went forward and why should they? It's not like they were limited by hardware even 15 years ago. More doesn't mean better when it's about the foundation of the game itself.

The art-styIe is fantastic (I also remember Armies of Exigo having a standout art-styIe) and hopefully Black Hole will be up to snuff in the gameplay department. In any case, it's awesome to finally see Heroes VI. But it also begs the question - what the hell is Nival doing?

Wasnt it like that in either Heroes 3 or Heroes 5 where you had none of the other resources until you first found 1 of it, then it popped up AI element? Migh be the same thing.

You talking about Civ not going forward with hexagon grid? I agree it wasn't sorely missed there since that game is more about overall strategy than on-field tactics. But what advantages does the square grid have in a Heroes game?

A challenging AI, keeping best parts of heroes V along with new enhancements, varied but balanced faction, a well presented challenging sp (heroes v failed badly at this) etc

The art style and graphics look amazing. Ina perfect world, they should just ocpy and paste HoMM 3 gameplay, add a few things and be done with it... But that won't happen.

Nope I was talking about Heroes, they always used a square grid, like chess you can't reinvent a genre that is made out of that particular feature, hexagons aren't moving forward, they're just a new approach, they just allow for more, most of the time useless, movement mostly because you don't have defined lanes. I love King's Bounty but it just isn't on the same level as HoMM when it comes to battles, HoMM fights are more intense and fun, KB was just fun filled with eye candy because of the art style which apparently HoMM VI crushes, that's the only complaint I had, KB looked way more lively than HoMM but now it changed. A HoMM with hexagons wouldn't be a HOMM. On the other hand, Civ has no reason not to use hexagons, it's not like it changes the gameplay, the most important part of it are statistics, management of cities and armies, and diplomatic relationships.

I must have forgotten what kind of grid HOMM4 and 5 used, was it square? The classics (HOMM 2 and 3) are definitely hexagonal grid, though.

Heroes V was the first Heroes game that used a square grid. I don't think it matters that much from a gameplay perspective, but a hex grid just feels more organic and natural (as Civilization V perfectly demonstrates).

For some reason I remember most of them using square @_@ but V was by far my favorite so I'd go with that any day.

I dunno about 50% new units... the previous games pretty much covered all of the awesome mythological units. HOMM 3 imo had the best selection of armies and units. I'd be OK with improved artwork and abilities for old units, as opposed to making up ridiculous new units.

That city screenshot is extremely underwhelming, artistically, they could have made something more lively, more complex, some graveyards, some rotten trees or something like that, I dunno they could have done a lot better than the castle and the walls, but everything else looks great :).

Some info from our own GS preview :http://gamescom.gamespot.com/story/6273924/might-and-magic-vi-heroes-impressions

Few points :-

  • Might & Magic VI's story will be a bit more complex than that, revolving around five brothers and sisters who chose very different paths in life that will ultimately be reflected in how their individual campaigns pan out
  • All resources are linked to castles in Heroes VI, so if someone chooses to attack a castle and win, they automatically get all of the resources tied to it as opposed to just fighting for a single resource--over and over
  • once in possession of a castle, you can decide what you want to do with it--you can convert it completely to your c1ass (for example, if you're a necromancer, then the castle changes accordingly), or decide things like how it can defend itself
  • Hero characters will also have special faction capabilities and there will be alternative objectives for some battles that may require you to do things like rescue a specific character or just survive
  • Even at such an early state Might & Magic Heroes VI looks quite detailed (the new jungle tile set look especially impressive) and it seems like the foundation for the gameplay is well in place

another preview from Kotaku

  • The line between role-playing game and strategy game blur even further with Might and Magic Heroes VI, bringing the ageless conflict closer to "the Blizzard standard."
  • The king has died, leaving five brothers and sisters to struggle for control of the throne, each grasping for power in a completely different way in order to gain a leg up on their siblings. One seeks out holy power, becoming a divine knight. Another chooses the path of the necromancer. Still another forges pacts with demons to achieve their goals.
  • Each faction has their own unique units with unique play c1ass...Necromancer characters and units siphon power and life force away from their opponents. The longer a battle lasts, the more powerful they become, so it'll be to the Necromancer's advantage to draw out battles.
  • The battles themselves will have more variety this time around. Tides will slowly rise on some battlefields, changing the area as the match goes on. Differing goals, including defending objects and killing specific units will abound

:)

Most of the stuff from the previews sounds great, but for some reason I can't get over the name change. I can't believe they did that. They should also show something other than the jungle setting. And yeah, that necro town looks awful.

Found these documents related to some more info about the new faction like their philosophies, inspiration , abilities, design approachs etc and some new concept art. (credit goes to the original up loader at celestial heavens)

  • Strengths: Mass buffs and healing abilities, temporary total immunity (racial ability), most resilient units, very high morale, high retaliation damage
  • Weaknesses: Limited ranged offense, low damage output
  • Racial ability: Guardian Angel a friendly stack becomes impervious to damage and ill-effects

Inferno : http://www.mediafire.com/?twc3b2bdjlhioqo

  • Demon magic is drawn from raw chaos and destructive by nature. Overall, demons show an unsurpassed ability to use the most negative aspects of all kinds of magic (direct damage, damage-over-time, debuffs).. Most of their spells are in fact corrupted versions of the "regular" elemental spells
  • Strengths: Best direct damage magic, good mobility, melee units are both resilient and lethal, can control Chaos (Fate / Luck, Space and Time) to their advantage.
  • Weaknesses: No support abilities, weak morale.
  • Racial ability: Gating - Inferno troops can summon temporary reinforcements of their own kind directly on the battlefield

Necropolis- : http://www.mediafire.com/?1gpyqn7q0xx4tg8

  • Strengths: Mass debuffs and DoTs, target denial for healing and resurrection, resilient units, troops unaffected by morale (Undead).
  • Weaknesses: Low mobility, low damage output, limited support abilities.
  • Racial ability: Necromancy Any living creature or Undead falling on the battlefield feeds a special gauge. The player can use it to increase one of his own stacks. X% of the raised creatures remain after combat
  • The Death Lords focus on the destructive paths of Magic, with a predilection for the Primordial magic of Order (discovered by Sar-elam, the Seventh Dragon) and the elemental spheres of Darkness, and Earth. They have also developed their own branch of magic, which they call Necromancy. Most of their spells consist in eroding the body and dominating the spirit.
