System Specs:

8800GT 512mb

E4500 @ 2.2ghz (2 cores)

2 gigs corsair 667 MHz

p6ngm 630i mobo

186GB 7,200 RPM HDD

I'm experiencing low framerate in COD4. I've had this rig for half a year now and havn't had this problem before.

Side Note: My harddrive makes strange noises and its a pretty low end harddrive. Perhaps that has something to do with it. Also I have my wires running through the back of my computer to help with cable managment. Those cables have alot of pressure on them. Maybe that has something to do with it..I dont know.

Thanks

the pressure on cables doesnt matter, you may have a faulty hard drive...

Erm... yes it is, and it should easily max CoD4 at any res. I can play CoD4 @ 2560x1600 with an 8800gt at 150-200fps.

Ya thats not very high end, your CPU is a slow duel core, you have an out dated GPU, only 2gb of ram but over all it's a nice med gaming machine. have you tried upgrading your 8800GT BIOS/Driver?

It can max the game, but its a mid-high range system.

I'm running it at 1680 x 1050. I'm not sure what the FPS is but its probably around 35 which isnt acceptable. I dont think this is internet lag because its choppy. By the way, is it worth overclocking my cpu? I've gotten it stable at 3.0 but I dont feel comfortable with it. Its pretty low end and it needs to be replaced soon so i think I'll take the risks.

Try using fraps, its great for fps display, photos and videos. But at that res you should be rocking that game maxed out.

I'm still experiencing lag after updating my drivers. In some parts of the map I would only get 40-45 fps looking off into the distance not even moving. I'm thinking it may be a faulty hard drive. Should i do a 3dmark06 test and post the results?

Are you on crack? My 4850 can max CoD4 out at 1440x900 at 60-150 FPS. My brother's computer with an 8800GT does 1280x1024 at 80-150 FPS. There is no way an 8800GT can do 2560x1600 at 150-200fps, a 4870X2 can't even do that.

Well I made up fake statistics to prove a point! Who doesn't do that! Fact is, I get no lag at 2560x1600 with an 8800gt, therefore TC should not.

I think its my processor. One of my good friends came over and he said that the harddrive has nothing to do with graphic performance. I recently attempted overclocking my cpu and I got a black blank screen. I think I fried my cpu.....should I go out and buy a new one or are there some tests I can do to prove its the cpu?

I highly doubt you fried your CPU, the overclock was probably unstable.

Just to add a little perspective to this scenario.

My setup (Not a high end computer by any means):

CPU: Athlon 64 X2 6400+ (3.2ghz)

GPU: eVGA 9800gx2

RAM: 4gb DDR2 800mhz

Mainboard: Asus M2N32 SLI Deluxe (nVidia 590 SLI)

HDD for games: WD Raptor (First generation)

I usually get rates of 90+, however it does drop below 60 very often.

CoD4 specs here

Also, my parents put some high end spyware on my pc to track what i do(what sites i go to and such). Maybe this is causing this major decrease in performance. And i'm not clear on wether or not harddrives effect performance in games. Do they or not?
