hmm....the 8400 is definitely NOT high performance but everything else seems pretty average....the wierdest on that list is COD5 - it should run PERFECTLy. I don't have a lot of experience with the graphics card tho, and although I've got an 8600, it's got 1 GB of video RAM. The only problem I can think of would be the graphics card. If u upgrade and it doesn't work, then there's a problem.

Well on this issue of your high performance desktop PC, I would say (as others have said about your high performance desktop PC) upgrade the graphics card in your high performance desktop PC.

....

....

....High performance desktop PC.

I don't mean to be rude but I don't think your PC is high performance at all. 2 gigs of ram only? Most of my gamer friends are now working on 8 gigs. Only one video card? We're working from two to four video cards.

How long have you had your computer for? If you're using Windows, over time, it tends to start performing poorly. The regular checks like defragging and desktop cleanup work well. Spyware, malware and even background processes play a big part especially when dealing with a windows. :P

Don't hate me.

As most have posted, upgrade your video card, an 8400 is not going to cut the mustard. 8800gt might help. Even then though your ram is a bit low and your dual core aint the fastest. The only other option I can think of is to check your bios drivers. I had a lot of issues with my pc until I squared the bios away. That's what you get for building yourself though:) Unfortunately I don't know what kind of motherboard you are running to lend any help.

Anyway as another person said, don't hate on me for pointing out the card and CPU issues. Hopefully what I posted might help, especially considering you are having crashing problems. Also consider upgrading your motherboard chipset drivers as this can also eliminate problems.

No it's almost just as bad, get an 8800GT or 9800GT, which one is cheaper because they perform almost the same.

Works great ;) you'll max those games even at high resolutions. For example, Grid, the most demanding out of those will run perfect at 1680x1050, maxed out, with a more than decent amount of AA.

Here's a sample, this is how it's going to look on an 8800GT :)

Not to sound rude but that isn't a high performing pc... right now it's a low performing pc... Try reading some tutorials about overclocking your cpu Get 3 or 4 gigs of RAM (pretty cheap nowadays) Definetly change your video card to a 8800 GT or higher. I'm talking about 150-200 bucks and some reading, and your pc will give you what you are looking for.

Yah 8800gt is the thing for now. Very compatible, and performs awesomely. It even does crysis at alot of the settings maxed for me at 1440x900 with no AA. Great card. I get 40 to 60 FPS in Call of duty 5 with everything on max, even AA.

Whats with all the people telling him to get 4 or 8 gig or ram???

Does he sound like someone experienced enough with pc hardware enough to know that his xp pro doesn't support that much ram. At least if your gonna suggest that to him its only polite to mention he needs a operating system upgrade.

I am surprised no one mentioned his processor. Its really slow and may be as much a bottleneck as the graphic card. Also memory is not created equal. 2 gigs of what quality? I am guessing its not fast, low latency stuff either. It might be time to look at a new pc rather than trying to patch an old one together. And make sure you buy one that is really for gaming. (no less than $1000 from a pc builder and don't buy in a store at all.) I think a mid range system would look more like q6600 2.4 ghz cpu 4 gigs of ddr2 memory (1066 with timings no worse than 15-5-5-5) 8800gt

Your graphics card is not meant for gaming. Also your processor is just average is not high end ( but still with a good vga it should be ok for gaming)

I recommend to get an ATI 4670 is about $80 and you can get quite a performance boost from that 8400 os if your willing to give a bit more money go for the 8800gt or 9800gt ( the are actually the same so which one you find is ok) they cost about $120-130

Uhhh DO NOT DO THIS. This is someone who thought they had an awesome system like it was. They certainly don't know what they are doing enough to overclock and going from 2.0 to 3.6 ghz is a dangerous leap. I can almost guarantee you he has a stock heat seat. Best case scenario he locks up his pc and doesn't have a clue how to do a cmos reset. Worst case, he destroys his processor.

I very much agree....It amazes me in threads like this one how many ppl will tell someone they need to upgrade this and upgrade that, when most don't even know what that system's complete specs are. It's easy to tell some one to up grade their GPU if that person's current card is low end for gaming purposes (like this one)....but did any one take the time to ask him what kind of power supply he has and if it would be enough to power these upgrades ?.... or as dannyw7982 mentioned about people telling him he didn't have enough memory and failed to ask what OS he was running and whether it was a 32 or 64bit and that 3.5GB or higher of ram would be useless for a 64 bit operating system ?!....This kid came here asking for some helpful advice, which a few have offered, not to get criticized or condemned (people claiming to be honest) for saying he has a problem with his high performance PC........My suggestion is, if you can't give helpful and useful advice when someone askes for it, don't give it.

Hey kid....go here.... http://forums.techpowerup.com/index.php ....and you'll get real answers to your question without any of the BS...
