Strange card, if any of them hit the $200 "magic price point" it'd be curious. However, the power requirements for the HD 2900 line are nuts, I refuse to use hardware with such thermal issues. ATI really needs to get out the HD 2950pro - same performance in a power-efficient package.

WTF? the ATi card you buy will be OBSOLETE LONG before it dies (Assuming you keep it at stock and/or keep it cool)

Maybe ATi themselves?

But yeah, it's a serious lacking point of ATi cards. They need another serious board partner to compete with Sapphire, so that life time warranties are put in place (HIS should try first).

I don't think we'll see a price drop in the 8800GTS too soon. Most of the benchmarks so far put the 8800GTS just behind the 2900PRO in a few games, but 8800GTS still has higher FPS in Oblivion and FEAR, while 2900PRO has a higher FPS in Stalker. I guess will still have to wait a bit longer for more benchmarks.

So **** what? I still want it to work, and I still want to be covered if something went wrong. I'd rather be able to replace a graphics card because I want to (upgrade), not because I have to because the thing decided to go south when I wasn't financially ready to upgrade.

I'd still recommend people to get the eVGA 8800GTS due to the step-up program and the Lifetime Warranty. Benchmarks still show the 8800GTS and 2900PRO neck-to-neck.

Well eVGA has this new thing called the "step-up program,"which basically allows you to trade in any eVGA card andrecieve creditfor the EXACTamount you paid for it. But you only have 90 days to use the step-up program...so if you buy a eVGA-8800GTS you'll have 90 days to send it in to them for the amount you bought it for.. and choose a better card of your choice and you only have topay the difference. They also offer all eVGA card buyers a lifetime warranrty..which is what sets eVGA apart from the rest. All others offer a 1year warranty..

Wrong BFG AND XFX have lifetime warranties on their cards. Why is it that people post things as if they are fact, when they really have no idea what they are talking about.

Ok I was not aware of those other two crappycard manufacturersoffering lifetimewarrantys, anyways eVGA still has the upper hand due to the step-up program!

Uhh..... how would there be a chance of that happening if you're buying it from a shop/online retailer? Unless they are scamming of course.

BFG and XFX are far from crappy. They are just as good as EVGA (if not better in some ways).

For EVGA's lifetime warranty you have to register within 30 days of purchase, BFG does not require this. With XFX you have to register within 30 days too, but you get a double-lifetime warranty.

While the step-up program is neat, if nothing better comes out within 90 days, there is no point in it. Also the step up program is only for one card, you can't step-up a step-up.

I consider XFX, BFG, and EVGA the top Nvidia card manufacturers, they are always my first choice. They all hav top rate customer support.

I'm not positive, but I think they use them for RMA replacements and sell them as recertified, not as new. But I could be wrong, but I hope not.

Not really, because most have been playing their games maxed for a while now.

Anyone who buys the GTS now though need to check themselves in.

That's the thing, the HD2900Pro doesn't suck when AA and AF are on. AF isn't even much demanding on the video card, so even my 7600GT runs 16x AF without a problem. AA performance has significantly improved from the release of the HD2900XT. Latest drivers have the HD2900XT pretty much always beating out the 8800GTS and sometimes even rivalling the GTX when 4x or 8x AA is set. (haven't seen benchmarks with 16xAA on).

Due to the fact the HD2900Pro is a much better value than the 8800GTS 640MB and 320MB, and that the 1GB GDDR4 version shows almost no improvement over the standard 512MB GDDR3 version.
