[QUOTE="BLBLAKERS10"]Idk why Valve is releasing another Episode.. all 3 Episodes were big enough to be a complete game... Im ready for the real Half Life 3 on a new Engine..Locke562
What are you trying to say? They've only released two episodes. Not three.
The 2 episodes were enough to be HL3, and number 3 will just be more untill the real HL3 on a new Engine..Im just saying I want a new engine and a new HL3

Welcome to the wonderful future of episodic gaming.... let's go over the reasons why they did HL2 ep 1,2,3.
HL3 as one game $39.99 (maybe $49.99)
HL2 Ep1 - $29.99
HL2 Ep2 - $29.99 with Portal and TF2 included.
HL2 Ep3 - $29.99 probably.
So one game for 50 bucks or three for 90. It's all in the numbers.

HL2:Episode 3 will likely be out in 2009 at some point. Also remember its been stated that Episode 3 will be the end of Gordon Freeman's story in the Half Life universe. Any future games, ie: Half Life 3, will have a new hero so lets hope to god they bring back Adrian Shepherd because that would be cool!1005
Just like Bungie said Halo 3 will be the end of the Master Chief....right.
Gordon Freeman will always be around, at least he better.

Well i imagine we'll see more of Dr Freeman for sure but i believe what Valve had planned was for HL3 to allow players to control a new protagonist instead of Gordon because there is a new story to unfold. Personally i'm hoping for Adrian Shepherd or perhaps Alyx Vance, depending on what happens to her in Episode 3.

Better not be Alyx!! She annoyed me so much sometimes in HL2.. Gordon Freeman better be the main character.. He is the best.hope episode 3 will be more longer!!!!unlike episode 1 and 2 ,,,,,7-8 hour finish the game - -commander1122
They aren't supposed to be lengthy.
[QUOTE="GodLovesDead"]They aren't supposed to be lengthy.

And yet they seem to take as long as full length games to make.
There were six years between Half-Life and Half-Life 2. There were two years between Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: EP1. There was one year between HL2:EP1 and HL2:EP2.

I think you got it a little mixed up. There was one year between HL2 and EP1. There were two years between EP1 and EP2.

I looked up their release dates listed on gamespot and that's what it showed. The point is, the episodic releases take nowhere near as long as a full blown sequal.

Please, continue parsing Valve's business model. Your thought process astounds me.
They're clearly working on it in secret, so we really have no idea how close the episode is to completion.
For all we know, they could have been working on sections of Episode3 years ago, and didn't want to spoil it by showing it to us.

I don't remember them ever saying that this will be the end of Gordon's story - got a link?
Also, why would anyone want Shephard back? He's got just as much personality as Gordon does (ie. none).
