Its about 50% complete, so give it another year or two, and it will be free, meaning you wont have to buy it, you can just download it like any other HL2 mod, i would think.Doom_HellKnight
Chances are Doom if the mod is successful, the creators will be instantly hired into Valve.. SO the game might cost money later on, just like how Counter Strike did.
Yeah, I can see what you mean, which will most likely be the end result, but i would buy it. ;)Doom_HellKnight
Oh same, that means the entire Devs of Valve would be working on it after word with updates.Â
I am also am looking forward to playing Left 4 Dead, they recently released a IGN preview of the game.. It sounds great.. Not just that but the Devs already promised that once the game is released they will be still releasing numerous campaigns/levels in the future as well.
Feels like I have been waiting on this mod longer than I did for Episode 1. Should be worth the wait, the team definately seems to be taking it serious. Music, awesome textures, etc.
OMG you guys see the Houndeye animations? Totally sweet, especially the gimp walk and when it stands on its back leg to look around. Awesome!
If I may dish out a little criticism, I gotta say these guys look like they are wasting a bit of their time.
Just look at the apache and loader models they have done. They are beautiful, extremely well done and detailed renders. Yet their time in the game is severely limited. You see the loader for about 30 seconds on the train ride in and from about 50 feet away, and the Apache moves fast and is often fought from about 100 feet away. Is that much detail really needed?
I cant wait for this mod, but try to make better use of time please.
OK, flame on!
lol. I can't believe you diehards are still holding out for this. Like the majority of ambitious game mods, it'll be scrapped. And as the source engine gets older and older, it makes less and less sense to remake HL using it. Oh, I know I will get flamed by the loyalists who really believe it will get finished. Go ahead, hold your candle high for this mod if it makes your life happier.

Definitely looking forward to the Black Mesa Source mod, as well as two other that are attempting to remake Opposing Force and Blue Shift.
Operation Black Mesa is looking to redo Opposing Force on the Source engine, and so far its looking like they are doing a good job :

And then there is Barney's Tales, which is a remake of Blueshift of Source, also looking like good from what they've shown:

Your optimism is very inspirational. I wish I and everyone I know could have the upbeat attitude you have.
If everyone thought like that, nobody would ever make total conversion modifications, games like CS wouldn't exist, CS took 6 years to get to where it is today, and it is still having changes/additions.lol. I'm sure everyone involved with creating CS Source was paid. Unlike BM Source, which those people are doing on their free time. They have less motivation, and time, to work on it.
I'm just being realistic. I've been around the PC gaming scene for a very long time. I know the stats of how many mods are planned or started, and how few actually get finished. The last large scale mod that I can remember that was done on somebody's free time was the They Hunger series, also for HL.
I'm not pessimistic about all mods. Only the ones where I see lack of progress and news, which is most of them. I am optimistic about one though: They Hunger Lost Souls, simply because Black Widow Games is a proven full scale mod maker for valve based games.
If I'm wrong about BM, then I will gladly let people come back and throw stones at me when it is released.

Mmmmm I don't think so.. Sure tehre is a problem with it being scrapped possibly, there always is.. Butttt saying that the Source engine is becoming outdated is completely false.. In many peoples view, the updated source engine today rivals most graphics out there, while at the same time giving top notch performance.

Ya, the Source engine is still going to be a viable option for a lot of developers despite the Unreal engine 3 and Cryengine 2 coming out. Engines cost a lot of money (think millions of dollars!) for developers, and the Source engine will problably be cheaper than the latter two engines listed above.
