I just bought a 2 GB stick of RAM to upgrade to 4 GB total. I put it in and in my computer it says I only have 3.5 GB installed. How did this happen? Could the stick be defected or did I just **** something up? Any help would be appreciated. mAAAbs
If you are running XP then it will only recognize upto 3.5GB of RAM , the rest is basically waste.

While you are correct, it is not because of XP, it's because it is a 32 bit OS. 32 bit OSs only can observe 3.5 gigs of ram. 64 bit OSs, like Vista 64 bit, can see more. I'm also rather sure that XP has a 64 bit version.

Yes you are right. I should have been more clear about 32 VS 64 bit.
