specs:

nvidia Gtx 295 1792mb (1.7gb's)
consiar 12gb's of ddr3 ram
core i7 920 (quad)
rampage 2 motherboard
antec 1200 case (7 fans built in)
velociraptor 150gb x 2 hdd
antec 1000w power supply
vista ultimate 64 bit

(i posted pics b4...)

I know its overkill but I heard that vista 64 only reads up to 4gigs of ram.. how do I make it read more than 4 gigs (it doesnt have to be all 12 gigs i just want to know how much more can i enable it to read)

and I dont want to sound like a newb but can someone give me a walk through?

Go download cpu-z, run it and check the memory tab and post back here with how much memory you see. http://www.cpuid.com/cpuz.php Also, Vista 64 can support up to 128gb of memory lol. 32 bit can only see ~3gb's though.

*12888mb Looks like it's all there, whats the problem? Also, what is the exact model of your memory? It looks like it is running at 1066MHz (533x2) You might want to go into the BIOS enable the XMP profile under memory settings.

what im trying to do is play rollercoaster tycoon 3 at max w/ donwloaded content and im big amusement park.. but for seme reason the bigger my park gets, the lower my framerate dips.. i just wanted to know if my ram is being utilized when i play it cuz i figure that w/ all my ram, i shouldnt get a slow down (or an occasional crash) since the game is like 6 years old, u know? lol

I have 3 questions.. (im such a newb)

1) is 1066mhz (533x2) considered fast?

2) how do i go into the BIOS and enable the xmp profile..?

3) what does that do?

On your Vista side bar, right click and add a gadget. Then click on "get more gadgets online". Then under the "Top Rated" tab, scroll down and install the "All CPU Meter". That way you can see how much total ram you have and how much is being used. 1. 1066MHz is lowend for DDR3, but its still good, but not fast. 2. I press the "del" button right when I turn on my machine to go into the BIOS. Look around in the memory settings for an XMP profile option, but not every motherboard/ram will ahve that option. I suggest looking in your motherboard manual for more specific info for your mobo. 3. When you enable the XMP profile, it will automatically set your RAM to it's specifications. For example, before I enabled my xmp profile, my RAM was running at 1066MHz and higher timings. After I enabled XMP, my RAM was set to specification at 1600MHz 8-8-8-24. Also, as far as Rollercoaster Tycoon goes, make sure you have the latest driver out from Nvidia for your gtx 295. If you do already, try going into the nvidia control panel and turn off SLI. See if that improves the game. If not, something is wrong.... your system should not blink an eye with that game lol

anyway 12 gig of ram is alot : it like the limit tough or 16GB for vista home premium :D and there people who buing : kit of 22GB at 1600mhz lol
That cost i heard like 1500$ those people are whack if they ain't game designer at home :D

now that i think off i have DDR3 1625mhz 7-7-7-20 and i don't think they running at correct Settings in latency and mhz.. how do i perform it ?
they ain't XMP tough they are Kingston Hyper X 13000 G2 Instead of Gx2 Who ad XMP but the seller didn't offer XMP one at build and it seem useless
and it optimized only for like Core 2 Extreme / Core 2 Quad So never tough XMP As essential if it is really Essential as both say the same thing

KHX13000D3LLK2/2G 2GB 1625MHz DDR3 Non-ECC
Low Latency CL7 (kit of 2 - 1GB) 7-7-7-20 1.9V (Data

Having 12 gigs of ram won't help you in 32bit applications (aside from if you're running a lot of them), as they're still subject to 32 bit memory limitations. I believe the limit under Vista 64bit is 3 gig for 32 bit programs?

By the time most people need 12gb of ram the speed of it will have increased dramatically anyway...bit of a waste.

Its Vista 32bit that can only see 4gb of ram

64bit Vista I think can see as much as 128gb

SEANMCAD

Exactly...and that was answered in the second post.

But 12GB of ram for Roller coaster tycoon 3 is a badass overkill....

That is correct. By default only 2 GB is available for 32-bit programs in 32-bit windows and 3 GB in 64-bit windows.

Nope but I doubt lack of memory is the problem. How much memory does rollercoaster use anyway? Look in task manager>processes while the game is running.

When I had it, it didn't use more than 500 MB..(This was when running it at max).

Do you get the same framerate problems with other games as well? Rollercoaster tycoon may just be poorly optimized for newer hardware configurations.

true, I don't know why you would need 12 GB for anything. It'd be cool to have it, but kind of pointless. 4 GB is enough for all games. 6 GB or more is overkill for ANYTHING. ( Don't know about crysis though)

Er, no. it's 4 gigs INCLUDING the video card's memory. Which is usually 512-1024mb.

Also, poster above me is a douche.

so true I laughed at uni when I opened after effects and it only detected 4gb of the 8gb. You would think abobe would be more in support of 64bit.
