How important is Contrast Ratio?

Anyone know about this? When it comes to buying an LCD Tv how important is it??

The highest most current LCD can have is 2000:1, which that translates into dynamic contrast upto 10,000:1.

That is actually a really good question; Who the F knows? I am intreasted myself. Though this may not be the server to ask such a question, you should check out the HDTV or Displays forums somewere else...

Thats not to say someone on here actually has come great info on the topic, I just think that is more of a video type question as opposed to a game ing type question, just a thought...

Thank god. I recently bought a PHILIPS HDTV 32". 4000:1 contrast ratio. 7500:1 dynamic contrast. for $1000. It's only 32" but it supports 1080p somehow. :?
