It seems like a love/hate thing. Havent seen anyone say FEAR was OK or decent. They eitehr liked it alot or hated it. I personally liked it. I think most of the people hating it were expecting something different or nit-picking.
Multiplayer, is decent. Theres better FPS games out there for multiplayer, but its fun. Its hard to describe, but the multiplayer is balanced fairly well, but the realistic level design doesnt play off to well with the unrealistic weapon balance and design. I cant really put my finger on whats missing. But i do have tons of fun going melee only on people!
FEAR Combat is the multiplayer only part for free. Its still free if you want to check it out. Last time i remember, theres sually about 1000 servers running and several hundreds of players. Its rarely a problem finding games of a certain type, but if you have a favorite server, it may not always be full with players.Â
F.E.A.R was not great but not bad... the story was way to short and really didn't give any closure at the end and yes you can have closure and have it set up for a sequel...the best thing they have added to fear was the free multi-player and widescreen support.
For me Fear was excellent in sp. Never realy had a go at mp because I had bf 2 to muck around with, but if your out for an intense sp game, definatly.
Pros: Graphics were awsome, some of the best firefights ever to be had in gaming are in this game, check out the particle effects. AI is another plus, they pull of some nifty manouvers if your not ready. Some creepy moments, though I felt that there could have been alot more.
Cons: The environments can be a bit too repetitive, too much "copy and paste" not to mention the colour gray. Story is awsome though inconclusive to a degree and only picks up at the start and end of game making the mid section game a bit drawn out.
Though it's well and truly worth it for the awsome combat, AI and moments of horror.
