1. Controls. Hook up a gamepad.

2. Graphics. They were fixed in the patch. It now looks just like its console counter-parts (with higher resolutions.)

3. FMV. ps2 also had FMV. At 1280x960 the cutsceneslook just like on the ps2.

So from what I see, RE4 for PC is just like RE4 for ps2, only with higher resolution and faster loading times.

Well that cinematic thing was realyl annoying. But even now I think people want more than just the same game as the PS2 one. Cuz almost everyone has either a PS2 or gamecube and anyone who does and wanted to play this game already has. So ... yeah.

Agreed, the cinematic is really bad.

Wasn't that patched or modded?

That said, Capcom did a lazy job with the port and deserve the scorn. Hopefully future games won't suck so badly.

Not having the ability to use a mouse on the PC for a SHOOTER is blasphemous...

Its not. I m playing it for the first time and having a total blast on a p.c. If I like it and its fun, who is to tell me that its inferior?

Anybody who agrees with this confirms that the PC has higher standards than consoles. So, for example, a PC port of a console game is about 20% worse (in a review) than its console counter-parts (considering that no new features such as mouselook or improved graphics.) (This is quite accurate with Halo 2 and RE4.) In other words, games like RE4 and Halo2 were very acclaimed only considering their 'inferior' platforms? Man, this is good stuff to burn the consoles with! How come I've never come across this in System Wars?

First off, it's a port. Almost every game that is ported from the console to the PC sucks. It's basically a rule of life.

I just finished it a week ago. It was excellent. Ive never played the consoles, but it was one of the best games Ive ever played. I didnt mind the video thing either, the gameplay was intense and smooth. I loved it!

Because it's a fallacy. Games are scored based on other games of the same genre and platform. For example, Gamespot gave the Xbox version of Halo 2 a 9.4 because it's one of the best FPSs on Xbox (which, I gotta admit, is pretty sad). The main reason they only gave the PC version a 7.0 was that it wasn't released until three years later. Microsoft intentionally sat on the game so they could use it to promote Windows Vista and Games For Windows - Live. And Halo 2 wasn't exactly impressive compared to most PC FPSs when it was released, but if both versions had come out at the same time, I can pretty much guarantee you it would have scored a fair bit higher, if only because it wouldn't have had the ridiculous Windows Vista requirement. Otherwise, the two versions are almost completely identical. The same goes for Resident Evil 4. And quite frankly, reviewers need to stop taking graphics into account when scoring games. If you want to know how a game plays before you buy it, you read the review. So if you want to know how it looks, just look at the damn screenshots. Go ahead and mention the graphics in the review, but to numerically rate something I can clearly see and judge for myself is fundamentally pointless and detrimental to the accuracy of the final score. If anything, I think the factor should be how the game runs (i.e. how well it's optimized), as this is far more meaningful to anyone considering a purchase. Rabble rabble... EDIT: Stupid forum keeps eating my paragraphs.

I'm not saying its a bad game because its the same as the PS2 and GC version. I'm just saying for most people it's nothing special on the PC because they already have played it on the GC or PS2.

Infact, I played the PC version before playing the other 2 and I liked it, a lot. I didn't finish it though but I liked it as a game. The only problem I had was that wierd cinematic thing in the start (before patches).

I have it for Pc, and play it through. It was good, but since I had played it for the GC in the past I had hoped for asignificant improvement in the visuals, even added alot more content, or allowed the user more visual / audiocontrols. Its a pretty good port being that it has ran flawlessly on both my XP and Vista systems.

I just really hoped for just a bit more in content and quality in translation to PC. Otherwise it still recieved a generous socre for doing what is is supposed to do:Function properly, and provide entertainment.

You mean the US version is the same thing as the patched European version?

I haven't played it but I think some small problems can become really big ones, like not beeing able to use the mouse for aming is a HUGE problem that shouldn't have taken to long to fix. From my experiences the japanese developers really suck at porting games, Metal Gear Solid 2, Devil May Cry 3 and Lost Planet are all bad *** ports.

So... for example... ps3 and xbox360 owners are going to expect something special with Half-Life 2: The Orange Box? And if it's going to have horrible controls with the gamepad but will feature keyboard & mouse support (i'm making it up), then the port will get 70% in reviews?

This just sounds wrong... I have never owned a console

It's a year old port from the ps2 version, which was inferior to the gamecube version. Also to get the mouse support, improved visuals, and improved cutscenes you need to download mods and other applications.

Ok you're missing my point. The PC version came long after the PS2 version and even longer after the GC version. So I'm saying most people had already played it. But seriously, I'm not going to argue with you. I wasn't even arguing, just giving my opinion...

i was looking at areview for it in PCzone (uk mag....could have been PC gamer.....cant remember). basically the review went something like this.

great game. terrible port. get it on a different platform if possible. no mouse support out of the box which was just wrong. felt like capcom paid someone £5 to port it....and got ripped off.

they did note in the next issue that a patch enhanced the graphics a bit but that shouldnt have even been an issue.

Its not that bad, it just doesnt have anything new. Annndd the cutscenes have a wierd haze to them. Its still fun gameplay though, and has variety. I think what made everyone mad was that it was just a direct copy of console version. Although, in the newer boxes there is bonus content when you beat the game, adding a minigame with unlockable characters annnd you get to play the last portion of the game as Ada.

Because it does not allow mouse support, subpar graphics, and no customizability, etc etc.. Basically cutting the legs off everything that makes a computer better, while at the same time cutting off the some what draw back of not being able to sit on the couch and play on a tv (though this can be remedied though it is sort of a pain)..

The point comes down to, most who wanted to play this game have already have on the GC or the PS2.. Sense so many own one of those systems, or they borrowed it from their friends..

OK! OK! WAIT A SECOND!

Why does the port have to feature new content? At least is supports higher resolutions. I mean, anti-aliasing would be nice...

But whatever! You said most people played it, right? Why would they want to play it again? Those who have already finished the game can just use the copy they already have. Reviews, on the other hand, maliciously guide n00bs into buying the original, EVEN IF THEY ARE THE EXACT SAME THING. The PC version even features the improvement of higher possible resolutions, as aforementioned (I'm comparing it only to the PS2, not the GC)
