I've been a casual PC gamer since probably around 2003. I played a few games like Runescape (lol), WoW, KotOR but I was still primarily a console gamer. I slowly made the transition to PC around 2007 when I upgraded my PC and was introduced to Steam. I bought Oblivion, Bioshock, and The Orange Box at launch and have been on PC ever since.

I've been gaming since 1994-95

I'd play pc games every now and then, but nothing demanding as I didn't have an actual gaming pc until early 2010 - the year my wallet died.

Man, I started gaming on my pc only two years ago. I've got a lot of catching up to do. I have to say, I much prefer playing an a pc compared to any console.

Q4 of 2007 that's when I bought my first real graphics card I've been interested in pc gaming and was playing free/lowend pc games for several years before that but thats when I consider it official and I doubt I will ever get a big as graphics shock as going from integrated graphics to a 8800 series card everything look so clear and felt so smooth after having played at 15-30fps and 800x600 :D

My earliest video game memories are games like Missile Command and Lode Runner. I also remember some game on the old Macintosh where you used the mouse to move this cannon that was placed on the far right of the screen up and down, which would fire a shell that moved in an arc that would destroy tanks and soldiers (some parachuted in) advancing on it from the left side of the screen. I also remember the big black floppy disks with weird games on some platform, I think it was an old PC with DOS, with black and green colours only and simple games. I also remember early Commander Keen games, the early Duke Nukem sidescrollers, and other Apogee freeware titles. I think things really changed for me with Wolfenstein 3D, which is when I "got into" PC gaming, I suppose.

Anyone remember an old game with colours, I think it was an old DOS game, where you controlled this sort of Pac Man type creature that went through the earth eating the ground to solve puzzles and collect treasure?

Early PC game memories of mine also include Curse of the Catacombs (which I discovered after Wolf3D), Blake Stone, Biomenace, LHX Helicopter Simulator, F-15 Strike Eagle Simulator, the first King's Quest, and Willy Beamish.

I got my first PC (a Commodore Vic 20) for my high school graduation gift in 1983. I am now 47, and going strong, so I have been a PC gamer, (exclusively) for 29 years. I do believe though some of the best PC gaming ever, was on the Commodore 64, and Amiga, sad these had to fade.

The first game I remember that really got my attention was Wasteland (I still have the complete game: box, manual, etc. with the 5.25 floppy). That must have been 1988 or 1989. I know I had a computer prior to that, but I can't remember any other specific games...

Early 2009. :)

Although, I did used to game on my old family PC when I was a child but it was nowhere near good enough to play new games.

I built my first gaming PC in 2009.

Probably around 1982 with the ZX Spectrum. We also had the ZX-80 and ZX-81 but I can't remember playing games on either of those. Played games before that on the Atari 2600 and the original Atari Home Pong console.

I've played PC games for a long time, Started on DOS with a few games.

Gorrilla Basic I think was my first PC Game. (started on Consoles mainly though)

I was such a casual player back then, moving up to Command & Conquer Red Alert 2 to Age of Empires 2 and Alien vs Preditor 2. Really, that's all I played till recently, back in 2009 I believe when Valve decided to make Portal for free on Steam in which started to make me into a hardcore PC gamer now.

when did I officially be one? like a few months ago.

As a kid I used Atari 2600, then got a Commodore 64.

Used that for god-knows how long till IBM clones.

I think it was about 87 or 88 when I got my first PC, it was a 386 with 1 Mb of RAM.

After that just kept using them.

Went to school for Comp Sci. Never really had any interest outside of technology. It's my only marketable skill, I can't seem to do anything else.

Around 2005 I kept hearing "halo halo Xbox Xbox" and I kept ignoring it because I didn't care for consoles.

Dad passed away in 2008.

Bought a 360 to do research and keep myself busy.

Then I started hearing "PS3 is better PS3 is better"

So I bought that for research too and started comparing them.

Tech is tech to me but obviously PC is where I make my money.

I think my experiences have made me more well-rounded as a technologist than a person who only knows Windows.

I'd like to get more into Macs someday and maybe take my career into Unix admin.

I'd say as long as I've been a gamer in general. I was used to games like Ski Free and Chips Challenge before getting my first real PC games as a kid (Toy Story 2 and Mechwarrior 2, two really fun games). I did have more games for my N64 and played that more, but as time went on I enjoyed titles like the Star Wars: Dark Forces and Jedi Knights games on PC, as well as Half-Life, Counter Strike, Deus Ex, Hitman 2, Psychonauts and Wolfenstein during my PS2 days and later N64 era days.

I didn't really go into it hardcore until recently, sticking to older titles on my PC and laptop until I decided it was time to upgrade as my PC was maybe state of the art in 2006, but couldn't do a whole lot now. Battlefield 3's significant graphical and player count increase made me upgrade last year, and I'm having fun with tons of games, but I'm still enjoying lots of older titles (and more so now that I no longer have a PS3 or BC PS3).

So I guess I'd say I've been a PC gamer about as long as I've been a gamer gamer, but more realistically I didn't get into it really hardcore until the early 00's and PS2 era, had a small haitus where I only played older titles sparingly and got back into it recently.

Primarily? Since about 2004-5 ish.

Casually(as in I played, just not as much as consoles), I've played such games such as Doom and Wolfenstein 3D, since about 1996 I think.

[QUOTE="streetridaz"] I've been a PC gamer since 1985streetridaz

I've actually been gaming on computers longer than 1985. But, those computers were from my friends. I played on their computers for a while (and evaluating the feasibility) before finally deciding to buy my own in 1985. Computers back then were quite expensive.

LOL so when was that?

1983 to 1984. My friends were mostly Apple II and Commodore 64 owners. Back then, I was an even worse noob than some here at the PC and Mac Games forum.

At that time, I was also becoming more acquainted with the Atari 2600 which I liked. But, there was something about the complexity of computers games (even back then) that had me intrigued.

Since I was 7 (now I am 22). My dad was a programmer and so naturally, we had a fairly decent computer in the household at all times. He also played a lot of Doom 2 and Quake with his co-workers back in the day, so I started from that. I never owned a console in my life.

When I was in University, back in the late 1980s, the Student's Union had some arcade machines (including the Star Wars one) so I spent many a happy hour on those. I also got introduced to the Hitch-Hiker's Guide To The Galaxy (text adventure).

But I didn't actually start seriously gaming on PC until around 1987/88. So I've been PC gaming for around 25 years at this point.
