Valve is a large, stable company. Your house is more likely to burn down, destroying all your boxes and disks, than Valve is to close down and completly cut off Steam. Fearig Valve and Steam will go away is what I'm talking about.
Also, Steam is not the only DD service.
New games are going to be full price on Amazon as well and go down in price on Steam over time just like they do everywhere else. Plus, you can preorder for a discount if you know for sure you want a game before it releases.
Boxed games these days are little more than paper and plastic representations of exactly what you get with a DD game. You often still need to create some sort of account to play that hard copy of a game.

Still, you are tying all your games under one account and you are NEVER gonna be able to do anything about it. You can't gift them to anyone and they have zero resale value.
Full price? 25€ is less than 50€. Steam prices in Europe are horrible, even if you don't order from UK you can get the same game as a physical copy with the same amount of money (usually even a few euros less).
It's the same reason there's still people buying vinyls, CDs and DVDs. It's not being afraid of change. Some people just prefer having a physical product. Read Broken_bass_bin's post above.
