well, I bought a new vga some time ago, I upgraded from the 9500gt to the gts 250, but I have a horrible cpu: the e2200 dual core 2.2ghz with 1 mb cache

during the time hen I upgraded I was playing demigod, and I was getting 21 fps on the 9500gt and after I put the new vga I started getting 75 fps, but I still wanna know if its a bottleneck, because sometimes I get lag spikes during games ex: the first templar, mount and blade...

and i was expecting a p4 single core i doubt it's bottlenecking that bad, but you'll be off getting a better cpu

yeah it wont hang too much theoretically you can never eliminate bottleneck its jsut how noticeable it is.. i recommend either overclocking your cpu or upgrading it to a far more meatier cpu such as say a core 2 duo e8400 or getting a new mobo and cpu and going athalon II x3 rana/x4 regor

Using the Nvidia Control Panel, you can raise the number of frames rendered by the CPU, which can result at smoother gameplay at lower framerates. Changing that setting could help lessen any bottlenecks you might encounter, like during heavy melee with a lot of NPCs.

OC only boosts performance by about 5%. His CPU is a bottleneck and OC'ing doesn't do much. Get a better CPU if you can afford it.

Its defiantly affecting your performance its not as high as it could be a relatively weak cpu paired with a decent gpu will cause framerate to vary around alot and lower the minimum framerate which is the most important for a lag free experience.

?? Can you please explain how you mean? Because CPU's tend to scale VERY linear to the amount of OC'ing they get. Basicly a 30% OC will give your CPU another 30% performance.

30% is a massive gain. It will make a world of difference in many games. A 2.2ghz Core 2 Duo is too slow for many newer games, while a 3ghz Core 2 Duo is plenty for most.

if ur afraid of OCing, why not just shop for a LGA775 replacement cpu? they are dirt cheap here in australia and could extend the useability of ur rig by at least another year (we still havea e6400 kicking around here doing occasional gaming with a 4850, running at 2.2ghz)

When I OC my 3.06GHz i7 950 to 3.8GHz, I see almost no difference. Games have a few more frames and thats it. A few as in two more FPS. That is where I base my statement from. When I OC my GPUs as far as I can before I see artifacts, you can add 2 more frames. That is why I leave all my components @ stock. Barely any performance gain and I really like my clocks downscaling when not in use to keep temps in check.

Your computer is far different from the TC's. There will be a time in the near future when a 3ghz i7 will see big performance gains in most apps when overclocked. As it is, a stock 3ghz i7 is overkill for almost anything. You are also running SLI GTX 470's, which is a very powerful GPU setup. I can certainly see how you wouldn't be getting big gains from OC'ing your rig.

RAAAWWWWRRRRR!!!!! FEAR THE BEAST PC!!!!! GRRRRRR Hopefully I can get something even nicer when OC dividend becomes more relevant.

Save for better PC components or a better PC altogether. In the mean time, play older games that run on a PC like yours.
