I spent around 4k on mine....
I Went to Alienware and the ram they wanted to sell was only ddr2 667 im like wtf?! for 7-8k?
Video Card - x2 in SLI Foxconn 8800gtx... core 630, memory 2100. For 500, not many people know this but foxconn is actually good with tomhardwares giving great rating on them I checked into it.
Processor - Intel Quad Core- Overlocked to 3.6(honestly it wasnt worth the extra 400 bucks :-()
Ram - I wasnt sure on what to do here go with corsair or g.skill. G,skill had 2gb sticks where corsair didnt. But, I ended up getting 4 gbs of corsair ddr2 800 xms2.
DVD burner - 18x Samsung
Hard Drives - 4x 500 gbs... 2 seagates and 2 maxtors in RAID.
PSU- 1200 watt Enermax modular..
MotherBoard - Asus P965 striker.. mad overclocker!
Good build, scared of the ram.

~ $1800 for this:
e6600
8800 GTX OC
2 gb muskin 4-5-4-11
250 GB WD Drive
G5 laser mouse and keyboard
Vista Premium
Raidmax Smilodon case
MSI 965 Platnium
lite on DVD-RW
Thermlake 600 W PSU
SB X-Fi
And some other little things. That was two months ago. I could do it today for probably $1600 or so with some of the price drops.
Built mine for 1100 dollars on January.
Now, four to five months later, I can build the same rig with identical parts for 900 dollars. Damn you computer-parts industry!
Apple IIc = $2000
Dell 386 SX 33mhz Laptop (more like portable desktop at the time) = $2000 2MB RAM (Hercules monocrome) 80mb HD
IBM PS/2 486 DX/2 66mhz (upgraded using Overdrive processor to 83mhz) = $2000 RAM upgraded from 8 to 16mb 420mb HD
(^^^ Originally with Windows 3.1 then upgraded to 3.11 and then to Windows 95.. poor thing) (with upgrades total spent $5000)
Compaq Laptop P1 150mhz = $1500 (boy did Compaq suck even then!)
Cyrix 586 200mhz with a S3 Savage 4 16mb vid card 2GB HD (Windows 98) (First comp with a 3D video card) = $2000
(all above computers did not come with OS or anything.. not even a soundcard.. which is a "given" nowadays)
Dell Laptop P2 400mhz with Windows 98SE .. 10GB HD 128mb RAM (no 3D video card) = $2000 (It came with a restore CD!)
E-machines E-Monster 800 P3 800mhz 256mb RAM 60GB HD Geforce 2MX 32mb with Windows ME = $1000
Dell 8200 P4 2.0Ghz With 2 x 120GB HD, GeForce 4 Ti4200 128mb 640mb RD-RAM (Windows XP) = $2000 (year 2001)
with SB Live
Dell XPS Gen 4 P4 3.6Ghz 500GB drive in RAID 0 ... 2GB RAM GeForce 8800 GTS 640mb .. X-Fi Fat4lity (originally GeForce 6800, and a SB Audigy 2 ZS) = $2600 with upgrades. (purchased in 2004) (with Windows XP SP1)
That about covers it..

Consoles owned during PC years: NES, SNES, Sega Genesis, Turbo Gfx 16, Gameboy, PS1, N64, X-box, Gameboy Advance, PS2, Gamecube. Â
I DO NOT own any "Next-Gen"( more like current gen) consoles. (Just hasn't been anything I REALLY like on the damn things to drop a few hundred on one)

I payed 2500euro's for my 19inch laptop. It was ment too be for business but at the end it serves for both business and gaming.
back in the days it was the best xP (like 3 Ã 5 years)
getting down to brass tacks, i think cheapest way to go now is to do what i did... i bought a cheap gateway with a pciexpres slot, upgraded the power supply, fan system, and stuck in a fast GPU. Using my old audgy 2 card, i was up and running for about 930 bux only-- about 600 for the PC, 200 graphics card, PS, and fans, about 130. Now i have more and faster ram, so the price is up to about 1100. not including monitor.
Â
I usually build my own, but since i needed an OS this time around, the economics clearly favored Gateway. Gateway has turned the corner and has some really good rigs now that are either equipped for gaming, or are cheap and can be made to be that way.Â
Arround 2500 here, for a QX6700 Core 2 Duo, 2 gigs of Corsair Dominator Ram, 2 ATIs X1950 XTXs (that was last year), 150 Gb Raptor, 320 Western Digital HD...ahh heck I've been upgrading all my life, never buying a clean comp since 93 so it is impossible to know how much did my comp was, just how much have I put into my hobby (vice?) that is PC gaming, which of course I don't want to think about without feeling a least a bit guilty.

my comp cost about $2000 after tax and buying a 2 year warranty. my comp is a Athlon 64 X2 (T) 4200+ 2.2 GHz, has 2 Gig ram. The only thing i can complain about is that when i bought it i didnt realized it had integrated graphics. It has a Radeon 200 256mb chip in it.stevo232345just replace it, you can do it cheap and easy (for about $150, but its reaaallly worth it) you'll go from maybe not even being able to play the new games, to maxing them out :)
