OK I am not stupid, just tired. I have a abit KN9 Nforce4 ultra mobo and Gskill ddr2 800 ram.

Heres what the manual says

To reach the performance of Dual Channel DDR2, the following rules must be obeyed:

• For a 2-DIMM dual-channel installation: Populate DIMM modules of the same type and size on slots [DIMM1]+[DIMM2], or slots [DIMM3]+[DIMM4].

• For a 4-DIMM dual-channel installation: Populate 2 DIMM modules of the same type and size on slots [DIMM1]+[DIMM2], and another 2 DIMM modules of the same type and size on slots [DIMM3]+[DIMM4].

※ [DIMM1] and [DIMM2] slots are made of the same color. [DIMM3] and [DIMM4] are made of another same color.

I have my ram in #1 and #3, if I put my ram in #1 and #2 will I see a boost in performance? Even if it isnt alot.

Yes, your bandwidth should roughly double.

That'll be a pretty darn good performance boost.

*spechless for a moment*

You already set your RAM in the right config for slot 1 and 3 which is dual channel. Why in the blue hell do you switch to slot and 1 and 2 then? Slot 1 and 3 and 2 and 4 is always dual channel. Never 1 and 2 and 3 and 4.

DDR=Double Data Rate, its giving you that frequency because that what it runs at, but its effective frequency is 800mhz because its DDR so you double it because data can be sent and received every clock cycle. And about the ram slots, just look on your mobo manual, its really simple and should make sense straight away, it says slots 1 and 2 because you would have the ram installed in slots a1 and a2, or b1 and b2, the ram slots are set up in two groups of two, in the first group has slots a1 and b1, in the second a2 and b2, does it make sense now?

Dude, YOU ARE already running at dual-channel.

Also, do you have any idea that you are using DDR = DOUBLE DATA RATE RAMs?
So obviously, DOUBLE the bandwidth data and you will have DDR2-800. Nothing wrong with that.

As to why your RAM is only running at 375mhz, your ratio is splitted wrongly. FSB and RAM are simultaneous, if you have a ratio of 1:1 set, then you will need your FSB to run at 400mhz to have your RAM run at DDR2-800.

The motherboard info board has nothing to do with your RAM. That just shows the PCI-E slot your mobo has.

*shakes head*

Ok did some overclocking and now they are all 400MHZ that should be 1.1 ratio.

you got me curious.... what does the CPU tab say? I'm curious of what the HT link is running at. Also, what did you end up setting your sticks to? Because, the manual says duel mode for same color, and you said you put them in different colors, and then the CPU-z pictures say that duel mode is active..... Just curious of who's right, is all.... the manual or that guy that said 1&3 is duel mode always.....

I had to put my ram to stock settings again, I was getting too many crashes.

Is there a overclocking software that tells me when my mhz is an unsafe region.

Well whenever you overclock the CPU, you should check to see if it's stable with something like Prime95 or Orthos for a couple of hours (I keep hearing 8 or more, but I'm not 100% sure, but longer is better).

For ram, you'd use memtest and leave that to loop for a couple of hours.

And it does depend on the mobo as to what way the memory sticks need to be install in order to get Dual Channel. Some (such as mine) need to be 1-3, or 2-4, others can be 1-2 and 3-4.
