Yeah, I don't know why you didn't get an unlocked processor though.

RTS = CPU dependent in general and overclocking can make the slight 10-15FPS boost that would make it always smooth at least say bunch of benchmark But thenyou got those that Worship 3.3Ghz CPU 1/3 gamer Because those people being Very skeptical to those benchmark

because there scared that overclocking a cpu Equal Guarantee RROD Light problem or similar after a 2-3 Year , then again i been speaking with peoples that overclock since Pentium 4 Guess what ? not one CPU died in the process motherboard did however it seem a natural process regardless you overclock or not motherboard are bound to fail within a decade

anyway it not like you will encounter massive problem because you haven't buy a cpu and cooler to overclock it im just stating that there a slight chance of FPS drop below 50 which can be noticeable inconsistency in Explosion / smoke / what ever animation the game provide when playing with max unit / player

however is ur 7950 recent like Ghz Edition ? or the Older at  The Core Clock of 800mhz Ref 850mhz OC Edition Ref ? if so use the bios update to get it at 920mhz you will see a enough big Difference to compensate for the lack of ur cpu overclock and it can even go to 1Ghz given the Cooler is Good enough on the XFX

Now Im Looking at value I remember of 7950 but i remember more the 7970 Value anyhow if i remember Any HD7950 Can reach 1.6Ghz memory clock and around 1050Mhz Core clock That regardless it a HIS , Sapphire , Diamond , Power color and the Overclock model can go up to 1.8Ghz but ur millage may vary

Your components won't fry unless you put in huge amounts of extra voltage which most motherboards won't even let you do. If your CPU gets too hot and you're not paying attention the system will just shut down.

The bios update is for if you have a old HD7950 non Ghz Edition so to know ur GPU Statistic : Grab GPU-Z From Techpowerup and Read it Value or Better upload the picture there with the Validate Button Inside GPU-Z need username / password if i remember which is done easy

Overclocking ur video card is a must given you want best possible performance however depending of GPU Model Because Each one have different heatsink on them IE XFX OC edition Vs Sapphire VaporX  it might get very hot so you will have likely to mess with the Fan profile setting

to be like when it reach 50C make it spin at 40-50% then when it 65C make it spin at 50-65% and 75C 70-80%  in MSI Asfterburner or EVGA Preicision X They are the Same Function so they work with any GPU perfectly with like the Very Same function Different User interface that is all

How do you know you max it?

system req vs me:

gpu has more than 1gb vram and runs dx11, i have more than the required amount of ram, i have a cpu faster than a gen 2 core i5 (quad core i5 neahelm)

Just because your rig has more than the minimum system requirements does NOT mean you are maxing out the game.

It will run on High I'm guessing. Unlikely you'll be able to max it unless it runs better than Shogun 2.

here the bios http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/124572/ati-hd7950-3072-120706.html

can someone explain him how to boost the Bios ? of is 800MHZ AMD RADEON XFX HD7950 3GB video card I haven't update a Bios on AMD Video card ever  From what I know once Bios update is done you restart PC and start overclocking

so to overclock you get an overclocking tool like MSI afterburner or EVGA Precision X and then you up the Core clock around 950mh-1000mhz and the Memory clock around 1.6Ghz Save to profile 1-9 and it will be done then run some Furmark or 3DMARK to test the Stability if no BSOD / artifacting and card below 80C it stable

thought if ur gaming on 1280x780 or 1336 you will have it easy to max rome 2 im just giving you tool to get all the maximum of ur performance you might grab ur self a 1080P monitor one day given the rig you have there not expensive on sales

http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33993264 i think that how

To flash the BIOS, run as administrator with the card under it's BIOS 1 position - see the markings on the back of your card, the switch should be furthest away from the CrossFireX edge connectors.

The new bios increases the base clock from 800MHz to 850MHz with a turbo frequency of 925MHz. These new features and performance won't work unless you're using the AMD Catalyst 12.7b drivers, or newer.

If you encounter problems, move your BIOS switch to the 2 position and reboot, to use the original launch BIOS. GPU-z can save your existing BIOS if you want to preserve it, for later reflashing.

then i have no clue if it work by overwriting the bios but i suposse it possible to back up with GPU-Z as it state the current BIOS however in case something wrong happen you can still RMA to XFX if it Lifetime warranty but it shouldn't be a problem i suposse...

cause that stupid no switch for bios to get it near a Ghz Edition

You don't need to update the BIOS to increase your GPU's performance. Just use MSI Afterburner to adjust the clock speed. Also you will not need to upgrade for at least 2 years imo, especisally for Total War. Those games are more CPU than GPU heavy.

is Radeoon HD7950 is a 800mhz model (reference) from what i read on various techpowerup / Tweaktone / 3Dguru / Xbitslab Not upgrading Bios Limit the Overclock Ability to around 850mhz While the Card is Capable of do nearly same result as AMD Ghz Edition

Without the Bios it impossible to approach the Ghz Amd Thought there Card where unstable / Too Hot at This result thus deliberalty Put a Limiter prior to realise it wasn't the case at least explained article said it that way

anyhow he can backup current bios and if he only play rome 2 ?  it still worth it to overclock the GPU to it potential well it up to him if he up the bios or not
