I got 800GTX+ right now and i would like to get more perfomance from fallout 3, arma 2 and gta iv.
I am thinking of upgrading to gtx260. Do you think its worth the upgrade? How much better would you say my games would run?

No not at all. GTX 260 is only around 10% to 15% faster than the 9800GTX+ so it's really not worth it. If you ask me I'd go either with a Radeon card or a GTX 470/460/450 when available for purchase.
wait for a price drop on ATI products and pick up a 5870 if it goes around 300-350. it beats the gtx470, draws less power and produces less heat.
[QUOTE="Hekynn"]Just get a GTX 470 if you can.Daytona_178Here in the UK the GTX470 is a ripoff. Thats sad, I know you want that CUDA :) . GTX 470 would be a good buy since its faster then a 5850 in most games and with direct x 11 and tessellation its faster then a 5870. Off subject aliitle bit I was reading somewhere that people are saying that the Uengine tessellation is using Nvidia's CUDA cores to get the lead. Duh! because the cuda cores are the shader processors. And when they tackle a demanding a complex graphical processing like tessellation, parallel processing allows better processing thn just using the gpu.

This is why I don't feel so bad that I went with the 9800 GTX+ rather than the GTX 260. :P[QUOTE="Daytona_178"][QUOTE="Hekynn"]Just get a GTX 470 if you can.04dcarraherHere in the UK the GTX470 is a ripoff. Is it true that the GTX470 is only $50 more expensive in the US? If so iam ****'ing mad right now....my folding is not a happy puppy without my CUDA :(

there is no gtx 450.. thats where the gts 400 series starts (which will all be gtx 200 series rebrands with dx11 support)

it is its about 150 dollars US more expensive than the current price in the usa.

its actually more like a tie really. ill illuminate in a deadliest warrior style
power (watts) vs preformance edge = hd 5850
price vs preformance edge = hd 5850
actual benchmarks (cinebench, futuremark, stone giant, ungine) edge = gtx 470
real world (games, apps, video etc.) preformance edge = tie
multimedia use edge = gtx 470
heat (temperature while idle/underload/post overclock) = hd 5850
overclockability = tie
with a score of 3 to 2 with 2 draws the 5850 is superior but really either is worth the time varying on what you want
however i would like to point out that in the uk and europe in general the gtx 470 is NEVER worth the cost as the hd 5970 is almost cheaper than one lol
Ok, in my rig you'll see that i have a gtx 260. The performance i get from it isn't all that great, i'm beginning to struggle to run games on the highest settings. My rig is no slouch, i'm being held back massively by my graphics card. If i were you, i'd get a 5770, it's slightly worse than the gtx 260, supports dx11, is cheaper and uses less energy. I rushed too much when i bought my gtx 260, hopefully i can upgrade to a 5870 soon :DI got 800GTX+ right now and i would like to get more perfomance from fallout 3, arma 2 and gta iv.

3 of your points are subjective. Power to performance does not matter if you have enough power. Price to performance does not matter if you have enough money. Also heat does not matter to the well circulated and cooled case. Therefore if you have all of these things you have a better card objectively.
I understand in the real world these things matter but they are subjective and not always concidered.
Just out of interest, what settings and resolution do you run fallout 3 at? I have fallout 3 aswell and ive noticed the occational drop in frame-rates which i thought was down to my RAM and RAM.I got 800GTX+ right now and i would like to get more perfomance from fallout 3, arma 2 and gta iv.

Why not just get a GTX 470? you'll have better performance, and DX 11.I got 800GTX+ right now and i would like to get more perfomance from fallout 3, arma 2 and gta iv.

Why not just get a GTX 470? you'll have better performance, and DX 11. SickStenchBecuause gtx260 is out for quite sometime now and it came out as a better card than mine not as a replacement. So i expected to go for something better thatn mine but not something brand new. Besides gtx 470 costs alot of $$$$ and needs a psu that costs alot of $$$. What about that gtx 295 or gtx 275?
[QUOTE="szafto"]Sad to hear, imagine how it wil run on mine. Seriously, what is this crap? Companies need to make new cards which do actually equally to better perfomance and gamedevelopers need to optimize their games. Yeah, if you run it on the highest settings without AA you'll get 30 fps and under, it's also another one of those games where anti aliasing hardly makes any difference.Just cause 2 runs like crap on my gtx 260

In the event of a tie the cheaper card will always win. Unless you are a fanboy. Please Log In to post.
