It's everywhere, I go. It WANTS me to play it, it NEEDS me. It keeps arriving in the mail as free trials, commercials, pop ups, ads on websites. I REFUSE! I do not want to play this game! I wont allow myself to be sucked into the World of Warcraft. Please help me resist these urges!

You're actually probably better off caving in because you will soon see that it most certainly is not worth playing, let alone paying money for. That way you will never be tempted by it again.

The best way to stay away from WoW, I found was to play something much better. Get Oblivion - yes it's all dungeons and quests but it can be played casually, it actually ends and is superior to wow in everyway. After beating Oblivion, starting WoW would be inhibiting as it is so inferior to the game you just played.

schu makes makes a very good point too!

Well in that case just tell yourself WoW would be a huge step back...like playing an FPS on PS1 just for the sake of FPS and not for any legacy value.

Like with anything else that can become addictive... get some self-control and will-power. WoW isn't inherently addictive, it is the people who play it who have low will-power and cannot resist playing just that extra few hours.

I am personally going to be "trialing" the game this December. I am intrigued by the world itself and the variety of role-playing options it gives. I don't like the idea of it being an MMO but a friend of mine is going to play with me, which he has told me, is far more enjoyable than playing with random people online. I've always been interested in playing the game for its story and lore... which seems to be the exact opposite of what interests everyone else. i.e. the level grinding and booty questing.

I don't see why you're so bothered by a game. If you don't want to play it then don't, it's actually that simple.

I actually think that WoW is stalking me too. Blizzard have gone on an advertising spree to promote the game in all manner, simply to buff their already insane player base even further, but that alone should be reason enough to stay away from it. Having stopped WoW more than a year ago, I tried several times to get back into it, but every time it just failed. That was because I realised then that there are better games to play and enjoy, and that WoW isn't enjoyable in any way due to the rotten community (12 year olds spending hundreds of pounds to get rare playable cards to unlock in game mounts, like a spectral tiger - WTF? lack of life, such a pity). Also, because you see WoW ads everywhere, that too should be the greatest incentive to avoid it like the plague - it has become a commercial money milking machine. Forget customer service, Blizzard are now only in existence to bleed the WoW nerds dry.

BUT, that isn't actually a bad thing! Blizzard are milking the WoW nerds of their cash and rightly so, because they caved in and showed the world how little self control and discipline they have. Then in a couple of years us casual gamers will get truly great casual games such as Diablo 3 and StarCraft 2. Blizzard are spitting on the WoW players and serving the casual, non-WoW players a plate of 5 star dishes. Don't become a WoW nerd, because you will enter Blizzard's "Nerds to drain money from" list. Diablo 3 will be just as addictive but nowhere near as detrimental to your health. Think about it.

Starting to realize you have been missing out huh? It's the best mmo out there and no other comes close to the quality of gameplay and enjoyment. Most ex WoW players that are disgruntled are usually drama queens that didn't get what they wanted in a raid. Those are the same type of players that constantly complain and blame other players on the mic in tf2, css, cod4 and so on whenever they die.
