I want to buy this upconverter dvd and it says it can upconvert up to 1080p

http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0926INGFS10087844&catid=25175&logon=&langid=EN

but my question is this

is it possible to upconvert with component cables ? ( if its possible i guess it would only go to 1080i )

thx in advance

It pretty safe bet it's a no. Best Buy would get in trouble if they sold any upscaler that would do it over component, it would be against copyright and stuff. So HDMI only, you may also be able to convert it to DVI.

Also, take a look at Oppo players, they usually score higher than most those at stores. They still only do it over HDMI or DVI, and around $150 for a 720p/1080i player. I'm guessing if you had a 1080p tv then HDMI wouldn't be a problem.

I always hear you can find upscalers that work over component, but they are mostly found on ebay.
