I have a file on my desktop that won't delete...

It keeps telling me it's in use by another program. It isn't. I cancelled the download partway through the download process and now I have this fragment of a file on my desktop that won't go away. And yes, I've closed the download program, and it still won't budge. :x

reboot

then use ccleaner to delete it

then agian it depends what program it is

and just to be safe check for viruses but dont worry about that just yet

You can try deleting it in the Safe Mode.

Are you full-administrator?

If you use Vista. (Or XP but there may be some difference then)

If you don't have the permission/ownership to delete the file/archive you left-click to mark the file/archive then you press the rigth mouse-button (over the selected file) and press properties then go to the security tab and hit the advance setting, there you can overtake the ownership over the archive/file, just select the your user and select the edit button, after that you press that you overtake the ownership over the file.

Maybe that´ll help.

hey man i had a file i couldnt delete either, tryed in safe mode, tryed from dos like ppl at gamespot told me, when that didnt work i just went to good old google, found a program called PurgeIE on download.com and it deletes it regardless what it is, and trust me mine was like indestructable, couldnt delete it, couldn't move it, boy i was glad 2 see it go :P
