... that people don't start saying things like:

- this game is so un-releastic

- the story is so cheesy

- the character is so unbelievable and not funny

Cause Duke is MEANT to be like this...

(and yes, we shall get people saying these things, you just watch and remember this topic)

Honestly, I expect that from newcomers to Duke Nukem. Fans should be rejoicing at the first funny line he cracks.

I won't harp on the game for that. If it turns out like the other generic FPS games is what I am worried about...

The only reason I ever liked to play duke was because it was so bad. The game was halarious because it was complete **** but had some fun multiplayer.

From what ive seen its a proper Duke Nukem game. Hopefully people will see the light and think omg this a fun game! I forgott about fun games! I for one cant stand this realism crap anymore! I think its why PC is lacking in online FPS games they are too serious and there too many of them. look at TF2 on PC how many people play that.

There will be people that say that. Duke Nukem hit his peak back in the mid 90s and the world has changed since then. There are going to be a reasonable number of people playing DNF that haven't even played DN3D. Some will like it, some will not. There will always be some folks that just don't get it.

I don't get it and I played DNF for a long time :P I just don't see why people would want this game to come back. It had it's time.... unless they've done something miraculous in my opinion, this is gonna be a huge flop.

someone might make a realism mod..? :D anyway, this is probably the most talked about game ever and it's going to be hard enough for some to just see it for what it is. the latest gameplay footage looks promising, but who's to really say that's not just my nostalgia-tainted vision, that duke really stood the test of time and that it will even be a good game?

Duke Nukem doesn't need to be realistic, the simple fact that it isn't makes it all the better! Look out Master Chief, Duke Nukem is back!

as long as it keeps its balls, personality, and its edge itll be a winner and heavily modded with lots of maps and good online play

and i just played thru duke nukem 3d a few months ago, confusing level design but its still a winner and still remains refreshing, it aint nostalga that makes it memorable, its fun

This will probably be the first game where I absolutely ignore reviews, and purchase it just out of love of the series.

I think they will, and they will because games have naturally evolved and I think stepping back to 1996 is going to jolt gamers and reviewers worldwide. Some will love it but some will probably loathe it.nutcrackr
This is correct. Humour is subjective. What is funny to the TC might not be funny to me.

Having said that, humour can also date rapidly and I suspect that a lot of the jokes in this game are just going to look stupid because people (and games) have grown up. Games, in particular their narratives, are increasingly more sophisticated now. The depth and characterisation of something like Bioshock leaves Duke for dead.

It might intend to be cheesy but it doesn't mean that people are going to like it.

Its going to be a step backwards for games as a lot of developers have worked hard to emphasise the importance of characterisation and narrative quality in recent years and quite successfully. It makes games more involving and personal and rewarding (in my opinion)

duke doesnt need narrative, it has timeless catch phrases and attitude which outlasted every game since then

I dont see why people care about this game, I have seen ZERO indication that it has any special to offer apart from dirty jokes.

i guess the style and sense of humor are an acquired taste.. but even so, the gameplay clips i've seen ooze with personality and there's a special vibe that resonates in the game when you just know the creators had loads of fun working on the game. in this case it has even been more or less a hobby project for all these years. this is very different to the majority of games today where creators worry about there being enough "content" and that are just pushed out because someone decided it should. this alone makes the game special, not necessarily good, but still special. then of course if you played d3d back in the day this adds an extra dimension. it was just one of those instant classics.

Fair enough..... but that's just an opinion. Just because someone doesn't boycott a game doesn't make them a NON-real gamer...

being part of the group which hapilly accepts the constant lowering of game quality and value trend is something different altogether, thats the foolish sheep club not the true gamers club. but this is all off topic, so thats about all i got to say, nothing more needs to be said.

I understand your point of view. To me MW2 wasn't as good as CoD4..... Saying that, I thought MW2 SP Campaign was great, and the MP was very fun until Hackers ruined it all.... I'm not saying it's a perfect game, it has flaws but at least it's more fun than others....

Being that todays games are serious ( sounding like the joker)..Perhaps we need a game like this..Its different , was one of the first shooter ups..Its just a shame that it took this long..Can understand wanting perfection..Holy cow though 12 years to make one game..What was thig guy thinking..Than sucking 30 million into making the game..Only to let his company flop..If he had come out with one game during that time..Perhaps one game every five years..His company wouldve been still around..Not sure what happen to this guy but he didnt no what he was doing..What it takes borderlands group a year to fix the bugs an dish out a game..Some thing was very wrong with this company..

Instead of being negative people like some of yall are..Why not go into the game with a open mind..Im willing to do that for any game..Just like alpha proto, went in with a open mind an had a ton of fun..Isnt that why we play games for fun not the serious side of us..We play so we can forget our every day troubles..Perhaps to hang out with friends an such..Man some of you posters some times are just killjoys..

Im gonna love this game whatever happens been waiting for it since Duke Nukem 3D Atomic Edition but you know this game is gonna get canned in reviews. From the gameplay i have seen, seems very old school shooter. Not that im complaining still love to play Serious Sam :)
