The dawn of war pack, as someone else said before, theres a Platium package goin on, original game + 2 exp packs for 30$. The series have a lot of single player, and the bots are good at what they do, so once you're done with SP you can fight bots. It obviously has multiplayer too.
Warcraft 3 is like DoW, big single player, multiplayer etc. (Good story too :P)
World of Conflict came out, so that should have very strong multiplayer as a lot of people were praising it.
Company of Heroes and Command and conquer 3 comes into mind, but I dont believe they are 'lengthy'
Mr. 9.5; World in conflict.
Possible contender of GOTY and a game that redefines RTS as a genre. You honestly can't get a game more action packed, more team orientated, more sexy then this. The system is new and fresh. No base building, no resource gathering. You get reinforcement points that allow you to send troops and vehicles ranging from four different roles (air, armor, support, infantry). You get tactical aid points which allow you to call everything from paratroopers, artillery, carpet bombs, and even a tactical nuke. The effects are the best in any game and you will just be awe stricken as you lay down a napalm strike or a nuke. The gameplay is fast and still requires strategy.
Then comes multiplayer. 8 vs 8. Each player gets only one role they choose and so you must coordinate plans and conquer the other team. I have never had so much fun on a multiplayer game since Quake 3.
CoH? DoW? No, WiC.

Once you hit the multiplayer, say good bye to any free time. Though make sure you join a clan because it might be hard getting some teamwork out of pub games.
WiC runs on low on my 2GHz AMD Athlon 2800+ with a Radeon 9600XT and 1.5GB RAM at around 30 fps, so you should be able to get it. Just a fun, solid game and MP will consume all of your time.
Of course it runs great on high on my brand new Inspiron 1520 with dual monitors even (dual monitors are like cheating I might add).
the orange box!!!!!!!!!!!
you get half life 2, ep 1-2, team fortress 2(online shooter) and portal(fps puzzle game) and it will run on just about any older hardware also
elder scrolls morrowind and/or oblivion. morrowind is very cheap now if u can find it and its absolutely massive. oblivion isnt as big but its still very big. personally i prefer morrowind but both are great.
guildwars is also very big. its like a big adventure game and tis all online. its not quite MMORPG but its still very very good imho. nice PVP too if thats ure thing. theres also no monthly subscription or anything like that. id advise either prophicies or nightfall.
if u want to go really old, baldurs gate 1 and 2 are massive RPGs and are crackin games.
If you are looking for a good RTS I would recommend either Dawn of War series or Company of Heroes both by Relic. Those guys know how to make a good RTS. I only played single player for Dawn of War, no experience in multiplayer. But CoH takes a pretty good amount of time to get good at. If you are willing to stick with it for dozens of hours before you get the hang of multiplayer you will like it.
Some people have suggested World in Conflict but I think you should really try the demo out, its basically the full multiplayer experience but limited to two maps. I for one got the game due to the hype and rave reviews. Played it hardcore for a few days, got to like 234 on the ladder and haven't really playd it much since. It seems like WiC isn't as intense or deep as CoH, for me anyway.
I don't think there is a multiplayer demo for CoH, but you can always get the sp demo and try out the WiC multiplayer demo and see which one you like. These are really the only 3 (including DoW) RTS games that i would suggest... C&C 3 is archaic gameplay from the 90s with new graphics bleh.
