Good Morning everybody,

My computer has been acting slow for the past weeks so I think I need to recover/format it. Since it didn't come with the cd's it has a HP Recovery Drive. This laptop as many know is differnet than PC's so I have no idea how to boot into HP Recovery... Pressing F8 on brings up the Windows Vista Advanced Options.

Any help please?

If it running slow, disable some startup programs, and with most laptops, I always uninstall all of the company's junk programs (they hog the system and are really annoying).

Ok, i do this on a regular basis with my Asus laptop so bear with me.

Step 1: Start the laptop and when the first screen flashes up (the one before windows starts) press F2

Step 2: Go to the Boot Sequence tab. (could be called something similar)

Step 3: Change the 1st boot device to the DVD drive

Step 4: Open the drive and insert the Recovery CD.

Step 5: Press F10 to save and exit (this will then reboot the laptop)

It will then load the recovery CD and it will guide you through the reformat.

P.S: After the installation is finished repeat step 3 and change it back to the Hard Drive as No.1. It will still boot if you don't but it won't display a error saying it can't find the boot files.

Apparently the topic creator doesn't have recovery CDs.

If the recovery is on a partition, then you might need to set this partition active so that the computer will boot the recovery programs - you can do this using FDISK.

search for recovery. you'll get teh recovery manager and recovery disk creation options

first of all backup your data

i used my ipod :)

then open recovery manager. say no to reinstalling applications and no to restoring, no to reinstalling drivers, until it asks you to do a factory recovery and click yes

it'll use the recovery partition (which won't disappear after recovery)

it'll restart and ask you basically teh same things and say no till it asks if you want a factory recovery

yes/no if u want to backup data if you didn't already

and there you go
