It's not a matter of money, it's a matter of doing what needs to be done.

The 'roomate' has a yorkie that ate my 22m LAN cable. It chewed up a segment about 2cm long.

He won't replace it. So I now need to move my pc right next to the modem because I only have 1 other LAN cable which is like 5m long. This is in range of his TV room (very close).

Now I can't be blasting music, because that'd make it too obvious.

I need to make my PC obnoxiously loud - like the fans or something. Maybe a grinding sound - something permanent and something annoying.

Oh and can you join a LAN cable? Just in case I need to fix my 22m LAN cable. It's got a 2cm chunk chewed away.

A reference GTX470 in Tri-SLI should do it, or get some tiny 12cm fans and turn the RPM way up, don't get bigger cos they run slower and quieter.

I though about hiding a vacuum cleaner inside my pc, just the body to make a loud noise and take up no space?

The 470 is louder than our vacuum cleaner, but that may work.

Add in smaller case fans and set your GPU fan(s) to a much higher setting. For the fans, simply find the loudest decibel wise in a NewEgg search and get a couple of those. If you're willing to drop the money, get a big CPU heatsink with dual fans (Like the coolermaster V6GT), as well as a second card.

I know that setting the fans to 100% on my 570s is almost like a hurricane. It's really bad when I can hear them roaring when I'm blasting away in BF3 at a high volume setting.

1. Buy a busted hard drive 2. do what blistrax said 3. put all fans on 100%... including the newly added 120mm ones made by the cheapest company (oh yeah rough them up by messing with the bearings.

i would just increase your gpu fans and/or cpu fans. I have my top 6950 running at 55% and its probably around 40-50 decibels. But when I crank it up to 70-80% (depending on the game) its around 70-80 decibels. Im afraid to run it at 100% for fear of my second 6950 blowing up or something.

Or get one of those CD/DVD/Blueray drive cleaners and keep it playing. Those sometimes get really loud.

Also try and get as many case fans with lights as possible. I know that my wife hates when I turn mine on so I bet your roommate would hate looking at your case look like a christmas tree.

Don't be so petty. You are acting worse than your roomate. I dont particulalry care about any other or past grievances and perceived slights, replace the cable and expend that energy in "teaching" him into moving out.

If you want to be really obnoxious, hook a massive sub to it.

Even at low volumes the sound will travel into the other room and be annoying as hell.

Get the cheapest possible fans you can, i got a PC that insanely loud as the fans are generic crap that came with an eMachines PC. If you want some terrible noise get a tube of super glue, use it and put little blobs in the fan housing and as each blade hits it it'll sound like a bicycle with those playing cards in the spokes... Worth a try.

Man you have to do this right. What you need are a few 40mm 1U server cooling fans. Incredibly high RPM, small fans means whiny obnoxious noise. Check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uc440tv1W_s(Revs them up 18 seconds in)

Buy: 12k RPM, 58.5dB

I think it'd cost much more money to make your computer super loud, than to buy another LAN cable.. lol. you know those cables are pretty cheap, right? :P

unless of course you just mess with your fans a little and have them make a rattling noise, as mentioned earlier :D

woah woah lets not go nuts here. its just an ethernet cable. the dog didnt kill another pet or pee on his monitor. a bit extreme. i mean wiping the hard drive..yeah that would be harsh but not crazy. however installing windows ME....bit extreme imho. maybe vista at a push but ME is for "the dog just chewed my comfy leather chair in my new sports car" type scenarios. :P on topic...if possible get an AMD CPU cooler and make it work flat out. misfiring petrol lawnmowers make less noise. just make sure you wear your own ear protection.

Scythe 38mm thick 120mm fans. Those suckers are loud once you get them running past 60% fan speed. Turn them up to 100% and if you're not using headphones to game, you're really going to have to crank up the volume to drown out the fan noise.

If you have one on your case it's not so bad, but when you get 3 or 4 going....holy hell do they get noisy. And as others have stated, crank up your GPU fan.

On a side note, if your roomate isn't some hot chick....slap him for having a Yorkie. That's not a dog, it's a hairy rat.

I think this would be the best route. It sounds like more work/money just to be obnoxious. And then, if you "win" and he buys you an $8 cable, you have to undo all your work.

Downclocking GPU fans. So difficult.

Because, really, that's all he has to do.

just set your cpu and gpu fan to max But i would just buy another ethernet cable, or a wireless network card, who uses still cable nowadays... I think it would be better for to keep a good relation with your roommate, after all you have to live together. I'm sure if you would ask him nicely he can pay half of the network cable or maybe full price, if you replace the cable the dog will probably eat through it again, so maybe that's the reason he doesn't want to replace it.

Since my desktop is in another room, i don't have to drill a whole in the wall and do cable management through the two rooms i think wireless is pretty smart for desktops. And 1ms latency, what are you world champion call of duty...? I hasn't bothered me anyway, and i mostly own on fps games.

look for the loudest fans on newegg using the filter. install them in your PC. then take a wire end and stick it in the fans way.

Guaranteed obnoxiousness!

Edit: something like this.. you don't even need to mount them. Just place them behind the PC!

Or just salvage the wires for a future project and buy a new one. Though what you're saying does work fine, but it's probably not worth the trouble just to fix an ethernet cable.

Most places sell them for >$15 a pop. It's not worth the investment when the cable can be purchased for less than of those IMO.
