Not saying the game is bad, just, uh... 'overrated'. Don't like that word.

I remember when the Orange Box came out. I bought it, of course. Now EVERYWHERE I went on the internet, I saw those lame-a** 'the cake is a lie' joke. I played through the ENTIRE game, and I STILL don't get what's so extremely hilarious about it.

It's a good puzzle game, but I don't get what's so funny about it. The last boss was WAY too easy, by the way.

Half-Life 2 and its episodes are the best first-person shooters I've ever played, but I hope I'd never have to hear people say 'the cake is STILL a lie' after Portal 2 or something.

i agree, "the cake is a lie" is extremely lame.

The game itself is quite fun, but the joke? Even if your high on weed its still is as boring as watching a dead fish in a bowl.

sounds like you had huge expectations, most peoples had almost none as it was just part of an already amazing deal that was/is the orange box. anyway, i wouldn't say the humor is laugh out loud, roll under the table kinda humor. it's just fairly subtle, kinda sick, twisted, dark humor at a level that is really uncommon in the games i've played (the original fallout games come to mind..). maybe it's not your thing but even then just the notion of a "companion cube" has to have some sort of smile inducing effect?

I think the point is that the meme is not funny. I think the game, however, had some brilliant writing. Stuff like the companion cube and the victory position was golden imo, not to mention the song in the credits of course. Maybe it's just not your type of humour, but it's not the game's fault that it spawned a lame meme.

I guess if it was hyped up for you then I can see why you were disappointed. I personally loved the character of

GLaDOS, especially her credit's song.

The meme is pretty lame. I agree with you 100% on that. The game is however a good puzzle game with excellent writing. The ending song was excellent.

I believe that people chanting it is caused by bandwagoning, a few people thought it was funny the rest jumped on the bandwagon.

This was a triumph.

I never got what was so great about portal. Its a decent game, but not this god game everyone makes it seem like.

I never jumped on that wagaon either. I was excited to play it when I got the Orange Box on 360, never touched it. I don't really care for puzzle games in general, but I was *entertained* when I handed the controller over to my sister to let her play Portal--of course, my 360 RROD'd the next day-- so I never got around to finishing the thing. There are always things heralded by fans as the greatest thing ever, and Portal launched into that status early on.

the team behind portal didn't expect the cake is a lie to be used like that. Portal is just unique, that's what makes it so great.

It's very subtle pitch-black humor.
