So I want to play a REALISTIC war game, but I can't find any that are actually realistic. Try to keep the suggestions, ya know realistic, Call of Duty is not realistic. I also don't classify brothers in arms realistic. And even if the game is super 1337 orgianal, I would like it to not have gameboy graphics.

Yes I know about ArmA and Pr, I have them. And if you suggest ArmA, Then suggest a mod for it. (Except ACE)

I'd say Battlefield 2 is your best bet. May not be top notch graphics, but they are more than enough.

Operation Flashpoint.

EDIT: Nevermind, it's old and looks it. There's a sequel coming out that's new and looks it, but whether or not it will be a truly realistic shooter like its predecessor is up to debate.

Most of the main series CoD games are pretty good, though I would avoid any spin off's or CoD 3

Well personally I like Insurgency and America's Army(new one is on the way), both free, Ghost Recon is okay too. Not sure if they're all that realistic tho, I'd prolly place them somewhere between Arma and CoD.

There is a popular mod for BF2, called project reality....its very high quality and not only does it have a high level of realism, but the game is structured in such a way that everybody works together.

A big euro mag actually reviewed the mod as though it was retail, and gave it a 94.

Probably the most realistis is Red Orchestra.
It was the first game I have ever played that made you click to fire and click to reload.
Reload as in cocking the gun.

Pr= Project Reality, And it is currently ruined by noobs, hackers, and all of a sudden it went from realism to arcade.

I will check out Red Orchestra.

Red Orchestra is definitily the game you want to check out. More fun than ArmA and more realistic than project reality if you ask me.

And I got to say...lol to the guy who suggested BF2. Seriously have you played it lately? The game has gone from bad to worse as far as claymore & nade spam.

Red Orchestra is amazing if you can find a populated server. After a weekend of RO, I sat down to play World at War, but found myself yelling at the TV because every mission wants you to pretty much charge enemy positions head on, whereas the main idea of RO is to keep yourself alive by taking cover and picking off your enemies in a firefight. So when my instincts of survival kicked in during WAW, an average of three grenades always find themselves by my feet.

Its gunplay makes Road to Hill 30 feel arcadey (RtH 30 is still one of my favourite games, though) and makes a joke out of Call of Duty.

Idunno Operation FLashpoint imo has aged well...not cutting edge, but certainly still more than adequate. That is likely the most realistic one out there.

Outside of that I cant really recommend any"war" games unless theyre simulations of some sort.

The Herarts of Iron series - not an FPS but a very realistic and complete war game - with HoI 3 looking to be the best

Especailly good with the huge range of mods out there, the best probably being 'C.O.R.E.' IMO

Resistance and Liberation.

I fairly good and realistic WWII mod for Half-Life 2. Get it here: http://www.resistanceandliberation.com/

EDIT: If you like RTS games, I can recommend Men of War. It's very detailed and realistic. I'm not really a fan of RTS games, but that game is just fantastic!

I'm gonna try out Resistance and Liberation

I tried to buy Red Orchestra but Steam was having fun declining my credit card every time.

Also, Stop suggesting Project Reality, It is not realistic anymore. The only realistic thing is the bullet damage, everything else turned arcadey.

Also, Stop suggesting Armed Assualt, I don't know if you read my actual post (90% of GS users seem not to) but I said only suggest it if you know a kickass mod other than ACE.

And I'm not to big a fan of RTS games. I like being my own guy with my squad, instead of tending to several squads.

Insurgency mod is crazy of reallistic, besides you can get it free through steam, you just need to have installed a source game like half life 2 or CSS, the graphics arent top notch but they are still acceptable, i definetly recommend it.

How much cash yout got?

I presume you're talking about FPS sims and not actual war games. In that case, you should look into Virtual Battle Space 2. It's used by several of the world's militaries as a training simulator.

If you're interested in simming other aspects of the military, Dangerous Waters is a great modern/hypothetical naval sim that lets you control various platorms and stations. Again, used by several NATO navies as a training simulator.

For modern/hypothetical armour, check out Steel Beasts Pro. Again, used by various NATO armies as an armoured warfare training sim.

For rotary winged aircraft, nothing even comes close to touching DCS: Black Shark for conveying a sense of realism.

I assume you're talking about fps games so i'll limit my suggestions. ArmA (1 or 2), OFP (1 or 2), Project Reality for BF2, Red Orchestra, America's Army, Insurgency, etc.

maybe. They seem to be compromising a few aspects of realism for console-users, however. Beyond that, try America's Army (arguably the most realistic game ever) or wait (just a month or two) for ArmA 2, which is basically just a simulation the military would use, but toned down ever so slightly for Civilian use.

Hidden& Dangerous 2 with add on scenarios Sabre Squadron is a great WWII experience. Although dated by today's graphics and physics standards. I still prefer this games over just about all other top shooters, and its' still supported by GameSpy for multiplayer play.

Play insurgency. It's a free hl2 engine mod. If you have the orange box, or css, or hl2 or others you can play it. Literally one or two shots kills you. Which makes it rough since it's hard to be "good".

To gamey. Characters move way to fast, unrealistic scenarios and way to easy to exploit.

(Spoiler!)You say "War Game" did you consider something that isn't modern warfare, and what exactly do you like in a war game beyond realism? Because if you don't mind a 'fantasy' element (Dwarves and Undead), and like to pick your brain about strategy, you could look into an old game called "Myth the Fallen Lords" or"Soulblighter" made in 1997 for the PC by Bunjie Software). It is a very hands on warfare experience. No resource collecting, unit upgrading or sugar coated sprinkles of any kind. Just be clever enough to acheive the military goals in realistic maps (including weather) with only a small number of Dark Age units and how you use them. A 3D engine, but it is not a FPS, however. Extremely bloody if that's what you also want. Never a 'kiddie game!'

Maybe also look into non-modern setting wargames, you might find other kinds of great wargames to play.

The Project Reality mod for BF2 is the one I'd choose. Unfortunately the game emphasizes teamwork to the point that it's not fun unless you have a mic and playing with people that know what they are doing.

I like resistance and liberation, leave it at that. It seems only about 5 people in this thread ready my original post. And then 90% of people in this thread can't functionally read english.

I have stated in every post, Don't suggest project reality. I have played it for 2 years, I'm tired of it.
