Can someone give me tips on ways to enjoy this game? I've played to the point where i got to the crashed chopper but... I don't know... Its just not grabbing me. Does it get better as you go? It almost feels too open if that makes sense. Should i just suck it up and keep going or will it be the same throughout?

Also, does anyone know of any good mods i can try?

I think that's part of the challenge of Stalker. You're out there in an open world (the Zone) and it's up to YOU to find out what's going on. You need to do the footwork, talk to people, and follow the leads. It definitly does not hold your hand and blatantly tell you what's up next on the mission menu. It's not for everyone.

I think your mindset has a lot to do with enjoying the game. Get out there and explore! Talk to people! It's a decent game.

Stalker series is not for everyone. That being said, they start off a little slow but keep at it and you will be rewarded with fantastic games.

Call of Pripyat is a decent game with it's own unique atmosphere and personality. Keep walking, there's a cavern near the crashed heli. Enter it at night with full volume, you will understand why this game is good.

You'll find all kinds of wierd stuff happening around the Zone, and it really grows on you with time. There were some really memorable moments when I played it. I don't want to spoil it for you, but:

- The random bursts of radiation in the zone make everyone run for cover including AI. I once went into hiding in an abandoned building during a radiation burst. It was totally dark inside, but I didn't turn the flashlight on because it could alert enemies. I kept walking 'till I got to some stairs, went up and found in front of me 20 soldiers sitting hiding from the storm. It was **** awesome. They didn't notice me in the dark, so I rolled a greande between them, and took my rifle out. Chaos insued...

I played CoP and i loved it although i can understand why someone would not enjoy it. To be honest if you have played a couple of hours then its simply not a game for you.

Keep just doing side missions one or two at a time in the first level until you are loaded up with equipment. By that time you will have a feel for the way the game lays the task load on you.

Its overwhelming if you try to do everything the game asks all at once. Explore and learn the world, the key missions that move the plot forward will always be there. The richness of the experience is in just exploring and building an inventory of weaponry that will carry you through later levels.

Lot of Stalker is about the initial struggle to survive. CoP is kind of dumbed down and much easier than SoC and CS in that it is not that hard in the beginning 1/2 of the game.
