I ordered a new computer and it should be arriving any day now. My current PC (the one I'm on now) has Windows XP. The new one I am getting has Windows 7.

What kind of differences can I expect to notice?

Also, is there anything I should know about Windows 7?

windows 7 has alot of nice features.. alot of the preinstlaled accessories are greatly improved over their older counterparts

windows powershall is the new command line.. it is essentially win in a sandwich

a couple of tools have been condesed or buried for a more competent power user such as disk management, and how to statically configure ones IP addressing.

generally speaking everything is shiny and new.. if youve toyed with vista before the two share alot in common minus the annoyances and inconveniences of vista.

it also has compatibility mode for running older programs which is SO win

I just looked up Aero Shake. It looks pretty cool.

I have another question. Does Windows 7 still have the option to change the appearance and start menu to Windows Classic like you can do in XP?

Time_Child

No. The start menu is search centric.

I hate to sound ignorant, but what does search centric mean?

What you want you type. If you want to find one of your files, type it in. If you want a program type it in, as long as the index is enabled, which it is by default. Before you switch buy this and read it:

Win 7 Pro and above have XP Mode. All Windows OSes since XP have Compatibility Mode although it's only with Vista and Win 7 where I've actually seen it work.

One thing you'll notice is that it boots up much faster. XP takes like 3 minutes. Win7 takes about 20 seconds.
