Ifi remember its been a long time since i played..Its more hack and slash than baldurs gate was..Im not sure how the story went..If they followed the drizzt story either..Its been years since i booted up my copy..I should one of these days for the heck of it..Its to busy a year for other games though..Buy it and have fun with it..Its stil better than most games out today in my eyes any how..
If you take Baldur's Gate as a middle ground between combat and dialogue driven gameplay and Planescape as dialogue driven, it's a combat driven game. It means mostly that you won't be passing a lot of time doing quests and talking to NPCs. Most of the time in IWD you'll be fighting in dungeons or in the wilderness. It's a great game simply because the combats are challenging and probably one of the most solid in any rpg game ever made.
I really enjoyed the combat in IWD, something about more recent DnD rules or something, but it's definitely more fun from a combat perspective. In terms of story, I can't remember it so I guess that says something (then again it's been soo long), but there was quite a bit of it. You go across many different areas and it generally has a pretty epic feel. I think you make your own 6-character party right from the start, so you miss out on any character development, which is too bad. There's probably a widescreen mod for it, where you can play in widescreen and at a higher res. Definitely must get if you're planning on playing!
