Enough to play smoothly. Crysis really isn't very hardware demanding, as people seem to think.

I could help more if I knew what fps you were getting now :\

^^ You're being sarcastic right? You didn't just say that Crysis could run on a Nvidia 8400 GS?

Hey if you think anything running at 800x600 in 2008 is decent more power to you. I'm not dissing you, I just think you have extremely low standards.

Sure an 8400 can run Crysis. But last time I checked, running it at 800x600 with FSAA off is not running it well in my book. It's running it at minimum. He'd be better off using that money to buy a PS3 he can't get the CPU upgrade without upgrading his MOBO and RAM too.

I love you people that accept the bare minimum as a standard.

3.0 GHz singlecore (edit: OC'd to 3.5 GHz), 2GB ram, Windows XP. Crysis runs on medium settings with decent framerates. Do you already have Crysis, or are you just looking into buying it?

no its not a real hardware heavy game
it is however a real **** on your processor i just got a new PC and i need to upgrade the cpu big time

you will need at least a 2.8GHz Dual Core Processor

As for your Card you shouldnt have to big an issue with it im running a RADEON HD3870 X2 1GB and it causes no pain to it. id reccomend atleast another GB of RAM tho

so you should be looking at

(min) Intel Core Duo 2.8 GHz DO NOT GET A PENTIUM DUAL CORE i made this mistake and i need a new CPU asap hey are the worst processors ive ever used
GPU( fine but you can get a 9600GT for under 200 or a 4830 for 270
just an extra GIG of RAM

this is all obviously so you can play it in at minimum of High Settings cuz frankly anything else and theres no point in playing.

(you need the graphics or the story is like eh)

Spell check, bro. There are lots of games your computer can run at high settings. Just look around. Just about anything on the Source engine.

The card is not as much the issue as your processor. And since a Celeron is a different socket type than a Core2duo, you'd need to swap out your motherboard and RAM as well. Upgrading your videocard now will only give you little results as the rest of your system is holding you back. But if you insist, you can get a 9800GT for $99 any more.

As far as what games your system can play at max settings.... anything made before 2006 I would say.

EDIT... Here's a BFG Overclocked card for $135 with free shipping.

You only need one question mark. To know how Geforce cards work you need to understand their numbering system.

Let's take the 8400 you own.

The "8" is the generation of the card. So a 7600 would be of an older generation.

The "4" is the quality level of the card. So the 7600 would be of a higher quality, but an older generation.

I would say that your 8400 is a better card only for the fact that it hs more memory.

I would look for a card that has a "8" where your "4" is. Like an 8800 is leaps and bounds over your 8400, but you'll never see the benefit with your current CPU.

You're talking about upgrading a Celeron. Anything is better than a Celeron. Both your GPU and CPU are extremely weak when it comes to playing Crysis at a decent resolution/settings combination. If you have a decent CPU you'll find that Crysis performance is much more bound to the GPU than the CPU. Case and point; a while back I was playing Crysis at 1650x1080 on a Core 2 Quad 2.4 GHz/9800GT, I overclocked the CPU to 3.0 GHz and noticed NO performance increase at all. When I upgraded from the 9800GT to the GTX 260 Core 216 I was able to play the game at 1920x1200 with no issues at all. No matter what you decide to upgrade, that's only the first step in geting decent performance out of Crysis at a decent resolution.
