I'm loving Dirt 2 WAY too much! Best game of my life so far.

Dirt 2 is such a great game. Got it Friday, completed around 30% of the game. So pretty short. The tracks are incredible, its like the game I've been waiting for my whole life. Anyone else agree? The game looks photorealistic in areas of certain tracks. Malaysia is probably my favourite location.

The game sucks, every car you drive is a twitch fest and feels like your driving on ice on every track. Graphic are nice, engine sounds are nice, thats about it.

I don't usually get into racing games and I've been having fun with it... it's probably the first non-kart racer I've played for a significant amount of time since the Rush games on N64, lol.

The game is pretty good and my 2nd favorite racing game of the year (behind the almighty Forza3).

The graphics are amazing, the level deisgn is top notch and its good arcadey racing fun. The controls are not the best and it could have been longer, along with more custimization.

Still good game though no doubt

Perhaps it feels like you're driving on dirt....... wait hold on. See what I did there. Honestly, the car handling just adds to the fun in my opinion, and the game is by no means a simulation (I mean look at the locations, tracks, and number of spectators round every bend). If y'all liked dirt (1) and grid, you'll love this game to pieces.

lol, when I first came to the realization that I was enjoying the game more than I'd anticipated, I simultaneous was struck by the notion that the game sort of made me feel like I was skiing.

I agree. One of the best games this year. I keep comig back for more...i play it everyday on the ps3 version....and i just bought the pc version on steam. The graphics are amazing...but the control is spot on amazing too. You really have to learn the roads and know how to break and when to punch the gas at the right moment to get around those turns. Simply the best racing game, right along side GRID.

I can't play this game, it simply doesn't have enough violence. If the cars would bleed, and maybe have some dismemberment thrown in with a couple chainsaws, I'd play it.

I've heard the driving is pretty realistic for a rally game. The surfaces that they drive on aren't usually tarmac, so there's not a lot of grip and the cars do feel like they're on the edge of losing control. If you're driving using the keyboard, I'd imagine it gets really frustrating as you're always going to be correcting the car by tapping left-right-left very quickly, which is more work and nerve-wracking than simply controlling with a wheel, especially when you need to make minor adjustments.

It's not a racing sim. It's more of a rally racer, with arcade style handling. It's a lot of fun, if you like racing games. The graphics, sound and tracks are very well done. People that complain about the car handling probably prefer sim games over the Dirt games...I personally have no problem with the handling. You just have to get used to the feel. You're racing on dirt and gravel, so it's understandable that your car is going to slide if you hit the corners, balls out. You have to take the corners differently then you would in other racing games.

I recommend checking the demo out. It's free, so all it will cost is your time.

My only problem with the game is the Evo X handling. I am heading off to the mountains this Saturday and I'm gonna put my Evo X through its paces (though probably the courses are gonna have lots of snow seeing how it is raining and maybe lots of mud). Then I'll make my judgment there. And if you are playing a racing game on a keyboard, shame on you. Get a controller at the very least, a wheel heavily preferred.

Well your Evo X is going to feel a lot more stable and in control because you're not a professional driver pushing it to the edge. The game allows you to do anything (including wiping out spectacularly :D ), so obviously it's going to feel more dangerous.

The game is very good indeed and I'm enjoying it but I wish we had the days of old where you could pick what mode you wanted to play in SIM or ARCADE. The center pivot car handling leaves much to be desired.

It runs much better than Dirt1. Excellent frame rates. Try the demo to test it on your system.

What i want to know, without starting a new thread, is if you guys are playing with a D11 card and what you really think about the D11 effect and performance.

I have a GTX260. The game runs beautifully on this card. I am playing the game on a 56in plasma and running at 1080p resolution with 16xAA...what more could i ask? I am perfectly happy with how well all my games run. Does D11 really make the game look that much better?

... same here, the Flatout games were close in that department. I'll check the demo out, see what kind of "pretty " graphics they're workin' with, but I'll probably have to go shoot a few zombies now .

Opinions are divided on the matter, some say there are noticeable differences others say there aren't.

http://www.hardocp.com/article/2009/12/07/dirt_2_demo_dx11_performance_iq_preview

http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/pc/2009/12/01/directx-11-performance-first-look-dirt-2/3

To me the better lighting was noticeable in some areas (you can see the difference in some of the hardocp pictures) and the better waves from the water. The performance with dx11 cards is good on the new ati cards, in dx11 there is about 15% decrease in performance compared to dx9.

On topic, i really liked both the gameplay and the graphics. I did expect a bigger difference between dx9 and dx11 but still the graphics are very good so i can't really complain.

The game runs very smoothly on my 5770, in excess of 45 fps most of the time with all settings and AA maxed. It's a great-looking game and actually pretty fun to boot. If only I had a wheel now...

It's impossible for a racing game to be my most fave game of all time..because all you do is race in circles. I'm into the Midnight Club games that let you race through the city without necessarily going in circles all the time. You can only have so much fun with a racing game imo.

^Exactly. And in FPS games all you do is shoot things, and in RPGs all you do is level up, and in fighting games all you do is hit things... you can only have so much fun with games imo... because you can only do things in them...
