There is a certain degree of hypocrisy there, especially in violent videogames, but I can appreciate wanting to develop a mature community. Although, in CoD that is NOT likely to happen.

Have you ever played an M rated game like CoD4 of Halo or any online game and joined a server that claimed to be "Family" or "Christain"? They always have rules like no swearing and stuff like that, when the back of the box lists language as one of the reasons why it earned the M rating. They say stuff like "Parents don't want their children to be exposed to fould language and stuff", while they are playing a game with killing in it! Or you know, how about this- it's an M rated game so if the parents really cared what their kids were exposed to, they wouldn't be letting them play this game in the first place. It's not that I like to swear a lot in games or anything, but occassionally I will, as most people do I think. I mean if a server does have no bad language rule, I can tolerate it, but then one CoD4 server I joined actually banned the word "noob" and claimed it was offensive language. That's taking it a little too far I think, and by a little, I really mean way way way too far. I just think it's a complete hypocritical move to make a family server in an M rated game, especially if Language is on the back of the box for the reasons. Again, like I said, if a parent is actually letting their kids play M rated games, they aren't exactly too involved in their children's "protection" anyway.

It's a very good way to keep punk ass kids out of games who do nothing but scream racial slurs into the mic the whole time they're playing.
Also, who says you have to join those servers. Is it really that hard to not click them?
Just join a different server. Seriously though, I think it's great that servers have rules like no racism and stuff like that... it prevents a lot of the idiocy that we find in online gaming with consoles.
I remember joining a christian server in Serious Sam and they had hippie blood enabled. It would be nice if more games had hippie blood because it's fun to take a break from the gallons of blood we see in games everyday. There is a certain degree of hypocrisy there, especially in violent videogames, but I can appreciate wanting to develop a mature community. People misunderstand me. It's not that when I go in these servers I have to cuss. Occassionally I'll say damn or something when I die after a spree or something, never anything too harsh, and when they do have the rules, I follow them. People who say not to join the servers then. Usually I only look at ping, map, and number of players, and join based on that. I hardly ever see the name, and in CoD, the only reason I will is to see if it's HC or not, as I don't really like HC. I was merelly observing how rediculous it is if you think about it.

I have a better idea, just have a rule: no morons. Perfect. Solves everything.
To play the devil's advocate again, an involved and educated parent should know more about what their child should be able to understand and play than a ratings company. The sticker on the box shouldn't matter if the parents give a flip about their kids. I agree with this, parents should know if their kids are responsible enough to play such games, not a blanket assessment on a box that doesn't take into consideration a number of variables.[QUOTE="guynamedbilly"][QUOTE="Avenger1324"]But if the reason they don't want swearing is because their kids are playing, then surely they should be looking at the age rating of the game and not letting their kids play it in the first place. Doesn't matter if they pay for the server - they are still in the wrong for letting their underage kids play. If parents bought cigarettes for their underage kids then they would be breaking the law. Yet buying films and games for underage kids is perfectly OK :?Astaroth2k
How are the parents supposed to do that though? Play through the game first to make sure nothing bad is in it? The ratings on the back of the box are just guidelines to give the parents an idea of what the game will have in it, and then judge whether or not their kids should have access to it. The point I was making is that if they don't mind their kids playing these games with strong language as one of the things on the rating, then they obviously wouldn't mind it online.
