:cry:Ok, so I'm a rookie when it comes to PC games and I'm not really a hard core PC Gamer, but I like what I like and what I like is The Sims2. Ok, so I bought The Sims2:Double Deluxe Expansion Pack. I get an error message about installing DirectX 9.0c. After attempting to download it myself from microsoft, my computer (Windows XP home edition) still doesn't recognize thats its installed. So I get online with tech support. I tell them that I completed the installation, but the game still wouldn't play. Long story short I told them that I had to "UnZip" the file and after going over the process of downloading it again, which wasn't necessary because it was already installed, but for some reason it wasn't running. So they gave me this link and I extracted the file into a different folder and the whole sha-bang. Game still won't play. OK.....Next he has me download NVIDIA GE Force (I guess thats a sound card) and the installation went well, however the game STILL won't play!!!

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GET THIS GAME GOING? I HAVE PLENTY OF DISK SPACE AND MEMORY. HOW MUCH IS IT GOING TO COST ME? I'M SO DISAPPOINTED.

Is there an error code with the error message?

Whatever the error message is, just type it into Google and you'll more than likely get your answers.

Ok, my bad, its just that the regular print on the screen is so small. The error message reads Failed to find any DirectX 9.0c compatible graphics adapters in this system! Please make sure you have a DirectX9.0c compatible graphics adapter and have installed the latest drivers provided by the manufacturer. The application will now terminate.

This guy apparently didn't uninstall his old drivers before installing the new ones and that is why he had the problem.

Did you make the same mistake?

If that's not it, read through the thread and see if any of the advice offered helps.

My computer is 2 years old. I bought it in Nov 2006. Well I've tried to uninstall nvidia. I restarted my computer, but it didn't prompt me to install new drivers. I'm not comfortable doing this. I feel like I might do something wrong and won't be able to fix it. I don't know what to do. Its too much. I don't know what to download or if I'm sure if I should download all these different things or not. I read the thread about the graphic devices concerning The Sims2 seems like everybody has a major problem with this. Why would the manufactures make this so complicated? Why would you make something thats not compatible with something else? Its just stupid!!!!

How can I get a professional who knows what they're doing? Do they make house calls? Because I don't want to feel like I wasted my money on this game.

Or what devices are supposed to be uninstalled and then reinstalled? What are the old drivers?

This sux!!!

Oh wow, all you need to do is install the new drivers, go to nvidia.com, look at the top of the page where you can find drivers, go down the scroll bar for your model of graphics card, then download

Ok, done, When I was with tech support earlier we did the same thing. I read the thread that someone posted above about The sims 2 graphic devices not being compatible with directx 9.0, so if the graphic card and drivers are from NVidia, then I'm guessing that Nvidia isn't compatible with directx. I read the thread where the guy had to uninstall the drivers, restart the computer and install the new drivers. Problem is I don't know the difference between the new drivers and the old drivers. I've stated before that I was a rookie at this.

Nivida is compatible with DirectX. the problem is that for some reason DirectX doesnt support your specific Videocard. Which is starting to sound like an Integrated video chipset. Which means you HAVE to upgrade to a better video card in order to play the game.

yep i just researched a bit and YES you have integrated video. Which means you need to get a video card. lucily though this means the game should play silky smooth. So if you can tell us the other specs of your pc. im sure we could recommend a good video card for your needs:D

AHA!!! Success!!!!! I did it!!!!! I uninstalled all three devices in Nvidia, restarted my computer, put the game in and it worked!!!! And you're right I do need a video card because the graphics aren't pristine sharp the way it should be. My OS is Win. XP Professional (5.1 Build 2600); Amd Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor; 1982 MB RAM; DirectX 9.0c (4.09.0000.0904)

Ver much so AND you can get one that will play the sims 2 perfectly.

I would say this here is your best option. $79.99 and a $20 mail in rebate so 59.99 is final price. This is assuming your pc can support Pci-E which im pretty sure it does unless its a laptop.

Woo hoo. Eureka! Enjoy your game. :)

I would get an 8800GT. They're a bit over $100 but it'll run just about every game out there very nice and smooth. Some of them even come with a mail and rebate.

Err...i had integrated in the family PC, the latest Nvidia drivers wouldn't work for some reason and i had to dig for some older ones. I had to make sure they were for the Nforce 430/Geforce 6100 and only then did it work. What a PITA, but now it has an 8800GT folding away :) 177.83 CUDA FTW!

If her/his PC has a PCIe x16 slot, she/he should wait for the Radeon HD4670/4450 (can't remember which one it was).
