Having finished Bioshock, one thing just puzzles me. Why did Andrew Ryan order you to kill him. It doesn't make sense to me. I mean having explained everything, he should have just worked together with you, to take down Fontaine. Any theories/explanations here?

At any moment Fontaine could have ordered you to kill Andrew Ryan, so working with him was impossible. Ryan probably ordered you to kill him either to a) Give you a chance to fight back, to try and gain control of yourself and resist Fontaine's control. b) Have his life ended by his own orders, rather than someone else's.

Can't Andrew Ryan say, "would you kindly ignore Fontaine" ?

Fontaine would override it.

This. Fontaine had more things built into the main character than just "Would You Kindly."

Wow! I also was puzzles for this, It didn't make sense to me! But now it makes sense, thanks. And anyway Andrew Ryan could have used those resucitation pods, couldn't he? We'll have to wait for Bioshock 2 to find out if he did.

I think there were several reason.

1) He wanted to make a point to you. Since your his son (Explained through the various audio tapes) he essentially lectures.

2) He's lost control of rapture already. Even if he's not killed it's a matter of time. Fontaine controls the city and the splicers.

3) He's planning to blow up the city anyways. Death seems inevitible. this way he gets to decide. In a sense, he retains a degree of control.

I think you're now reading too much into it :P, as far as im concerned the resuscitation pods only exist to keep it as a video game - i.e you can carry on playing once you die. We'll see what happens storywise in the sequel, im pretty sure some familiar names will sneak back in though.

I would really like to replay BioShock, just so I can take the plot in even better. What a stunning piece of storytelling this game is! Too bad the action was so mediocre

Yeah, I feel the same way. It is really annoying too, since I found the action at the start of the game to be pretty fun, and enemies seemed to react well to being hit by a wrench :P But as you go on and the enemies get stronger the flaws in the combat system become more apparent, and the guns feel like pea-shooters.

Good things there's the plasmids, I found them more useful nearing the end but they, too, lost their novelty at some point.

Fontaine had more 'programmed' into the main character than "Would you kindly." He almost definitely had multiple fail-safes against that.

This. And it eventually got to a routine of shock, wrench, shock wrench for me.

It was the last thing he could control, Ryan was a man who loved to be in control. Without control he'd feel helpless, then when Rapture fell into chaos he lost completely control until he realized that you(main character) would be sent to get rid of him by Fontaine. Thus why he was so casual when you arrive to his office, when he then orders you to kill him it is the last thing he have control over and he demonstrates how the phrase has you moving like a puppet. By doing that he hopes that you'll break free from the phrase and will go after fontaine as he most likely doesn't want his rival to sieze control over everything he built. That's my theory on why he does it

The pods were made for use only by people with Ryan's genetics. Since you play as Ryan's son you can use the pods because you share genetic code, at least that's what I remember reading about the pods.
