Sorry if this should be in the PC & Mac Games forum, but I thought the Computer Hardware Discussion forum would be a better place for this.

Long story short, I'm in the market for a good gaming mouse and a solid mousepad. I have roughly 15" of space available for the mousepad, and I prefer to use wired mice. I'm in the market for anything under ~$80-$90.

This will be used almost exclusively for shooters.

Thanks in advance! :)

Steelseries Sensei is currently the top gaming mouse out there. For a mouse pad you should get the Steelseries QcK gaming mouse pad. About 80 USD for the Sensei, and 10 USD for the mouse pad.

That mouse looks revolting, so uncomfortable! Also to the OP what type of games are you interested in playing? I use the Razer Naga for MMO's and it is incredible, It's a decent all rounder to, as I dabble in FPS from time to time and it works great. Though for First Person I do prefer the Razer Deathadder - that mouse is a beast. I personally never really bought into the mouse mat hype, I just use a random one I got from one of my sponsors. I doubt it would really make an impact though I could be wrong.

Are you a 1337 hardcore shooter looking to improve your aim drastically or just another GS member? If the former, just get the WMO mouse, it's like 15$ and set it to 1000hz. It is better than every expensive mouse I have ever used including: g5, lachesis, mx518, g400, etc. Most quake live pros use this or the razer abyuss

Also for mousepad, I love dis http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Goliathus-Alpha-Control-Fragged/dp/B002R0DX0U/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1325784147&sr=1-1

I don't see why you guys need to spend so much. There really isn't a huge difference between a $15 mouse and a $50 mouse.

What I use for gaming.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826664015

Works amazing for shooters and the mouse also lights up and changes 5 different colors. Trust me its going to be the first thing that wows people when they see your computer lol. All my friends wanted one right after they saw mine. They thought I paid over $50 for it but I only payed $10 :P Had it for a year still going strong.

They have it on ebay for $10

Thanks for the suggestion! It looks really futuristic. I'll need to look into it more however. Does it feel comfortable to grip, despite its... futuristic look? ;) I usually game with a fingertip grip personally.

To be honest, I used to be a hardcore WoW raider, but grew sick of the monthly fees and the game in general after about five years. Therefore, with my interests and my busier schedule, all I play nowadays are shooters. I'd be using this mouse mainly for TF2, FF, and possibly some Quake. A lot of my friends use the Deathadder -- is there something about it that makes it stand out from the crowd? It's the one I've encountered most in my gaming travels.

How come everyone ignores the WMO mouse when pretty much every quake live pro who has way better hand eye coordination that every1here(except me ofc) uses the WMO. Nobody uses laser mice, nobody uses the deathadder, it's all the WMO, or the razer abyuss.

Sorry for going OT, but I have a quick question for you: I read Fragtality's mouse guide that you linked a long while back, and he mentions that the older silver-topped IME 3.0 with with P/N starting with "X08" is built better than the newer grey-topped IME 3.0. I'm using what I'm assuming is an older silver-topped IME 3.0, but the P/N starts with "X06" instead of "X08"; do you know if it's mechanically or electronically any different than the "X08" version? A google search didn't yield anything :?

I suppose because the WMO doesn't look as fancy or shiny or expensive or scientific as the others. ;) Regardless, I'm researching it. If I can get a top-notch mouse for $20 rather than $80, I'm definitely going that route.

I am not sure, but what I can say is that I am almost 100% sure the sensor is the same, just feels cheaper and that stuff.

Just make sure you set it to 500 hz or 1000hz, some prefer 500hz saying it's more stable or something, I just use 1000hz I don't notice that stuff. My friend bought one after I recommended it and he likes it a lot more than his older deathadder.

Thank you all for the informative responses, I appreciate it! Here's one thing that I've been thinking about for the last few days as I've been researching this market... I realize that I'm not a professional who spends hours and hours each day fine-tuning his mouse to his game. Therefore, these incredibly expensive, professional gaming mice might not be best suited for me, because chances are I wouldn't take advantage of even half of their features, nor would I be playing enough to notice the slight differences that pros do when they review these mice. I was looking at all of the customization options for the Steelseries Sensei and came to the conclusion that I would never take advantage of even half of those, so that would be a bit of an overkill for what I'm looking for. It's shiny and cool, however. :D The WMO 1.1 looks like a good buy -- simple, durable, time-tested, and apparently used by quite a few gamers over the more expensive, scientific, customizable mice out there. Will be keeping a tab on this. I'll need more input about the R.A.T. mice before going that route, but they look like a good purchase from what I've heard thus far. I've heard a lot about the Razer Deathadder and I personally know about 5-6 people that use it -- it seems to be the go-to gaming mouse for most people, so I'll keep an eye on that as well. A lot of people must use it for a reason. So I guess I'm boiling it down to the Deathadder, WMO 1.1, R.A.T. 3, 5, or 7, or... anything else that is posted here that catches my eye, I suppose.

Just a lil information, there is no WMO 1.1, the WMO is just the WMO. There is the intellimouse 1.1, which has side buttons. There's also the 3.0 that is shaped like most other mice.

Oh, whoops. Haha I'm still reeling in shock that people choose that little bunch of $10-$15 over the shiny, customizable Steelseries/Razer mice. o.O I guess I still know nothing about this market. ;)

It's because they are better. Optical mice track better than laser. Also the WMO is very light.

People just tend to buy expensive laser mice because:

They don't know anything

They really want side buttons, but the intellimouse 1.1 does have them
