So I was just handed down my family's old Dell as we got a new HP. Yes, I'm aware, this computer is crap, but I would like to upgrade it decently enough to run games such as STALKER or even UT3 (if possible). I know my upgrade is pretty restrictive, so I'm not expecting to be able to run Crysis. Now I also don't want to spend mounds of money, I'm thinkin' $300 tops for a new video card. So here's the low down on my "system":

Processor: Intel Pentium 4 2593MHz

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440

Memory: 1536MB

Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP

I know nothing about computer upgrading, I had a hard enoughtime upgrading my RAM to 2GB......So if anymore info is needed to determine what else I can/should do to my computer, just ask.

Thanks for the help!

Just keep that, its not worth upgrading IMO, it will run games like CS, warcraft 3 fine, so its good for a second computer for a friend to use

upgrading that computer is like upgrading a 18th century ship, its just not worth it.

stick it out with this computer until you can afford a new one.

Don't bother, it would actually be are the same price to buy a new computer all together.

Your better off building a new PC from scratch. The dell will hardly be upgradable and it will be built with cheap unreliable hardware.

I agree that upgrading will not serve you in the long run, but if money is tight, a new videocard would boost gaming performance considerably. The old P4s may not be up to par with some modern games, but don't fully count them out yet = )

The only thing I would do is throw in a cheap video card. Thats if you have AGP, if not don't bother. If you do, look at a cheap Ati 2600.
