So i am currently running XP but i am getting Vista tomorrow which i will be using as my main OS and i want to know if i need to do anything else?

Is it better to have Vista on C:/ rather than D:/ if so how do i move XP onto the D:/ partition or doesn't it matter?

Will there be any compatibility issues with the two?

If i want to remove XP later how would i do this?

partitions really dont matter unless you are bad at remembering things like me(Sticky Notes FTW)

there shouldnt be any issues with each one and if you waant to remove XP erase the partition

Oh and a quick note Update to SP1 on vista

If you're intent on using the C: drive as your active partition for Vista, why not just upgrade XP to Vista rather than delete it. There's no known way to move an entire OS installation, or for the matter of fact: it's entire partition, to another one and expect it to work immediately; The MBR and P Tables will just laugh at it.

Afterwards, install XP to the desired drive.

Easy way is to just pop in the Vista install disc and select upgrade from the autorun menu.

The other way is to reserve an empty drive that will fit your stuff and move everything you think necessary to it from the C: drive. Then do a clean install with Vista and move it back. Note that some programs rely on registry keys to function, uninstalling the OS will remove those registry keys, thus rendering the program useless.

You can just install Vista on top of XP during the install process. This will essentially kill the old OS and any programs that relied on it. But as long as you have space on the HDD your files should be untouched. This is a last ditch option though.

Wait, you can't upgrade from a Windows XP 32-bit to a Windows Vista 64-bit?
