Intel Nehalem 8 cores this December... How bad do U want it ?

New socket LGA1366... so need to change motherboard again??? They say the price will be around $200 for the mainstream and its clocked at 2.66Ghz, the high-end will release late maybe January 2009 and its clocked 3.0Ghz... It has 4 physical core with all core support Hyper Threading that enable 1 core to act as if were 2 core, so 8 core are available...

I'm planning to save money from now on and buy it soon when it Unleashed by Intel... I hope the Mobo X58chipset will be available at that time... How bout U?

1 core can handle 2 threads, very different from "acting like 2 cores."
Don't expect to find Nelahem for less than $300 until the end of '09.

ur asking for trouble jumping straight in at launch. high price point, hardware issues Id imagine.

Also it will have built-in memory controller... SO non of that buying that older motherboard to support old memory types. The only memory thats supported will be the one the processor supports.

Considering what Hyperthreading was before it almost is 2 cores. I remember for a while Hyperthreading outperformed Dual-core chips.

Also it wil have an intergrated memory controller. Which means it wiil offer faster memory access at lower latencies. Also means that Nahalem will be stuck supporting only DD3 for a while.

I'll wait till nvidia releases an SLi chipset for the new CPU, and when both are within my budget to do so. Though for me, that would equate to more like ~$150~160 USD for the CPU, which is about what I paid for my E6300.codezer0

Quad cores havn't even reached their "prime"... and won't for a while.. Hell Dual cores have just broke out into the majority... Software's support of hardware progresses too slowly... and makes this nearly useless.

I can't see much of these selling unless bought by idiots with money and want bragging rights or big multi-media junkies.

Well I'll wait to see the price to performance ratio. After all AMD is working on Shanghai so Intel will still have to keep prices competative.

Also even if a quad's cores aren't all used in games the Nehalem architecture is going to have an integrated memory controller so we might see some gains simply for that fact.

The entry level ones aren't coming out till late 2009 so I think I"ll pass on the $300-$400 cpu/$200-$250 motherboard and $100+ ram till 2010 when its needed and cheaper.mastershake575

From what I understand, Intel is licensing the SLI chip from Nvidia and will be using it in certain boards that will be able to support both Crossfire and SLI. These boards likely won't be available at launch, and I'm not sure if they'll trickle down to the mainstream boards or not, but SLI is indeed coming to LGA 1336.

I don't see why they couldn't have named it LGA1337 though, not 1336. Seems a bit of a waste opputunity. Anyway, I won't be.

Not for a long time, seems like a huge waste for gaming. I mean 9/10 times your GPU is a bottleneck, not your CPU. Unless you're into workstations or hardcore media stuff then I see no point in picking up one of these for gaming.

They will market Nehalem as a quad core chip with hyper threading... Marketing quad core CPU as 8 core cpu is like marketing TN LCD as IPS LCD.
