intel vs amd

im confused here...im going to be building a computer soon and i dont know what to get in it....amd or intel, which is better?

any help here on what i should get for a gaming comp

Well ofcourse i should mention "if" you overclock otherwise there are price ranges where AMD will win on stock.

basically its a bit like this.

if u have a big budget then intel is ure only man for high performance. at the mo core 2 duos and quads kick the snot out of AMDs high range CPUs. they cost more but they give more. there also more overclockable (newer model usually max out the mobo before they overheat themselves now...its crazy).

if money is an object but u dont mind overclocking then its intel again. even a fairly low end chip can be overclocked ot the hilt and offer crackin bang per buck in the end.

if u dont want to overclock though and ure on a tight-ish budget then AMD may be they way to go in terms of bang per buck.

Intel has got a sizable lead in the CPU over AMD. It used to be the otherway but times change.

I'm building myself and I'm getting a Quad core Q6600. I think it offers best value and it overclocks well and will last longer than a dual core.

Just remember 2.4Ghz Quad core will beat 4Ghz dual core when games are made for it, like Lost planet and later Alan Wake.

Unless you want to go for a Crossfire setup with only $200 for a motherboard and processor. 790FX board plus the X2 5000+ BE chip is a killer combo Intel can't even hope to compete with.

It'd be pretty silly to go for a Crossfire setup with only $200 to spend on a motherboard and processor though.

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 for $250. The (similar) AMD Phenom Quad has to be patched to fix a problem it has, effectively reducing its performance by 14% :(

The Q6600 has amazing performance and will last you for a very long time.

If you want to spend less than $350 on the mobo/cpu and arn't overclocking AMD is ussualy better price/performance wise.

But the higher the budget the better Intel becomes for DIY builds, especially if you're overclocking.

Though price/performance doesn't really mean "better." In terms of life-spam, temperature, ect. they're both fine. Maybe Intel has a slight edge, like Nvidia over ATI.
