OK, so here is the deal. I really want just a pure, unadulturated shooter...nothing fancy, complex, or anything...just good action. I've always liked the gameplay of the CoD series as well, and I didnt buy MW2 simply out of principle.

However, part of me wants MW2 for two reasons:

1. I enjoy the CoD franchise

2. I feel that my badmouthing certain aspects of games (DRM, lack of dedicated server, etc) is unwarranted simply becauseI have not experienced the things I object to.

I know I would like it, but is there any reason not to buy it? Small population base? Singleplayer too short? Multiplayer too bland?

Single player is awesome. I haven't played multiplayer, but to me it just looks like more of the same thing if you've played COD4.

I never played the single player, but me and my best friend still play the multiplayer all the time, its pretty addicting. There is no reason not to get it, you will definitely get your moneys worth. Just watch out for hackers....

I would go for it, if you want the game and will enjoy it. I have put a few hours into the Xbox 360 version but stoped when the new maps came out as I found it annoying with some players tactics which I didnt enjoy. However the single player was pretty good. However I have not played the PC version so I can only offer my opinion from the Xbox perspective on this one sorry.

Well, singleplayer is not as good as cod 4 neither the story, its about, 5-6 hours. It took me almost 6 hours, but i was not rushing, if you rush it will take less than 5. In some levels they like to throw plot twists with plot holes and in some others to give a bit bigger areas from cod4 with mor freedom to go where you want, take cover and less lineariry. In some others its the exact opposite. Its less reallistic and more oldschool at some point you attack a prison with heavilly armored special forces groups. Sadly it has no lean. I would consider the sp to be ok, most people say story is terrible, but i think that The 2 main characters or cod4 developed a connection there and i would like to see mw3 as a coop game with those 2 characters. There are some cool plotwists if you can think a little and understad why each one happen. Oh it has no lean. Multiplayer wise the gameplay is more complicated than the first with more perks, and abillitie to choose and weapon mods. Some of them are pretty arcadish like throwing knives or carrying 2 umps and shooting them or use a grenade launcher. Some are pure fun like the shield which you bash enemies while they cant hit you. Also its newbie friendly and less compettive. For example you could be a high level and a new player can kill you easilly and randomly. Its pretty fast paced and there are death streaks which give you points even if you die so you can stand a chance against the better players. There is also the copy cat aiblitty with which you copy the class of the player who killed you. As you understand its less reallistic and more of a fast paced game with lots of toys also its less compettive and more kill-die-kill for fun rather for being the best. Those things made mp more fun to me than the first. Also the spec ops in which you play missions with a friend and kill the tough ai or die together. The negative things will be that cmpaign is not much, its as long as the first. the price remains high despite its time and the mp lacks dedicated servers. Sometimes its fine, sometimes its horrible. The problem is that as the time goes by, things get worse and most importantly, latelly there are alot of hackers in the game. Seriously, way too many hackers.

I hate the game. Very unbalanced multi-player. Single-player is a joke as it is very short and full of plot holes. IWnet is terrible and if a host has a bad connection everybody lags. There are a ton of hackers thanks to its lackluster anti-cheat program. $60 is simply too much for this piece of trash. If you can get it for lower then it would be better, but the game still sucks.

It's very fast paced kinda like Counter Strike Source... spawn, shoot, die, repeat. Nice single player, but I prefer tactics in BC2 rather than the first person to be seen dies in MW2. Nice graphics, some hiccups with networking due to lack of dedicated. You could have a day without problems, then some days you sit in a lobby and bounce around for 10 minutes just waiting to get into a game. Hackers, yeah I seen some... blatant wallhacks, aimbots! I didn't fall into a hacked lobby where it boosted me to level 70 though. I did all that and went into prestige mode all by myself. So yeah it's very fast paced with some VERY small maps, you will know which ones I mean when you get into them and think WTF spawn die spawn die.

I don't have the game but owners seems to complain a lot of unbalanced weapons, commandos (knife only roadrunners), altered hosts (1 kill = insta level 70), vac not working or too slow (meaning too many hackers ruining everyone's experience), DLC that splits the community, cheap kill streaks that play the game for you (sentry gun / nukes). Get CoD4, solid community, lots of servers (you can filter modded servers and still have plenty to choose from) & more.

I was actually going to mention that. 60 bucks is just too much for a game of this sort. I don't know you personally but, for me at least, even if I did have $60 to burn I wouldn't spend it on this game.

Fun singleplayer but average to bad multiplayer for me personally.
I dont reccomend getting this game. Get TF2, ARMA2 or Bad COmpany2 for online action or Stalker series, Crysis or COD1-2 for singleplayer FPS.

Its one of the few games i regret buying.

The singleplayer is pretty good, and spec ops is also great when you play with friends. As for the multiplayer, it's nowhere near as bad as some people claim. It just isn't that great is all. The matchmaking system does kinda suck but it gets the job done, and you might experience a lot of lag occasionaly but most of the time it's pretty smooth. I only regret getting the game because I already have CoD4 and CoD4 is a lot better than MW2 (plus it has dedicated servers).

Overpriced,
Completely unbalanced multiplayer,
Short campaign (That lasted too long >__> ),
Unbalanced multiplayer
No dedicated servers (You said not to mention it, but it's still lame)
Unbalanced multiplayer

If you're going to get it get it on Xbox or PS3.

Crysis or Crysis Warhead might be good if you're looking around for a game were running around shooting things is an option, and don't care too much about multiplayer.

Edit: It might not be exactly what you're looking for, but because people are recommending Bad Company 2; Get Battlefield 2 if you haven't already.

Yep, and when it goes on "sale", they just take 15% off and it makes it the normal price of $50. Man I love Acitvi$ion/IW!

PLUS: You have to pay $15 for the map pack that just came out. And then the next map pack comes out like next month. And you will have to pay $15 for that also.

So all in all if you REALLY want to play this game, you are going to have to spend $90. It's not even worth $30.

Just to let everyone know, it is £30 ($50) on Amazon. And it has been for a while. Still expensive, but I have no idea why some people are outraged it is still $60.

From my experience on the free weekends the multiplayer simply doesn't work. Literally the worst lag I've ever seen, hacks, dropped connections, etc.

Single player is an amazing experience, albeit confusing to me because you play as multiple characters. Plus it's on the really short side. Multiplayer is fun and I like the addition of customizable killstreaks. The only thing I dislike about online games is the lag and what not. For instance, I will have my shotgun out, an enemy will walk in the room 2 feet from me, i'll shoot dead center, blood will spurt out of him, all the while he shoots me. On the killcam it doesn't show my gun firing at all which is complete bull$&*# because he should've died. I can handle him getting the kill, but the fact that my screen shows something completely different than their's amazes me.

Single player is fairly decent with some epic moments and multiplayer is fun but in-stable and inconsistent. I usually get into a good game, but sometimes there is a lag fest. The price is simply too high and the map packs seem like a rip off. If you're getting it, still get the PC version.

Not only that, but get a couple of you on a LAN/2 player lobby and shoot some scenery around like computer cases or wheels etc. Then ask your friend if you're stood on it when it's moved from its original position... on their screen it hasn't moved until they shoot it! lol

The SP is OK, it is a new MW1 campaign basically. The MP, being the major selling point of the game was great at first, but there are all kinds of hacked servers now it seems and I got on one and it automatically gave me all achievements and level 70, kinda ruined it for me.

I would try it if its gone down in price, but dont pay 60 bucks for it

Multiplayer too bland?

mrbojangles25

Considering your post.... GET IT!

I'm staying away because there's plenty of shooters, I'm not into MP, I'm not into "realism" and I hate activision.

If you enjoyed 4 then you should get it. The campaign is solid and you will get a lot of hours out of the MP. Its better to play with the community than to try to organise a party though. The P2P system isn't perfect but it can get you into most games relatively quickly. Remember there is also the spec-ops mode too. Its a solid package.

I was lucky to play MW2 for free since my friend has an extra copy. But, I would advise you not to buy this game.

Pros: Yeah the gameplay has potential, lots of perks, unlocks, prestige mode this time around.

Cons: Commando is annoying/broken/stupid (CoD isn't halo...), one-man army danger close noob tubes (infinitly lame), higher killstreak rewards are cool but highly encourage many people to just camp (and not play the objective in objective modes). The kicker for me: no dedicated servers. My experience with this was even worse than I thought it would be. Hacked/Modded servers ruining your stats/breaking your settings and HUD, hackers running rampant and no way to kick them! Ok so you leave the hacked server, try to join a game and guess what, you are sent back to the same server! Not to mention almost every game is very laggy (p2p). Oh yeah and $60 is expensive man, and they charge you for new maps ($15), no thank you.

If you really want a good shooter, maybe check out Bad Company 2, I just picked this game up and it is way more fun than mw2.

After reading your post, I'm pretty sure you're gonna get it either way, so get it if you've enjoyed previous COD. As for me, I enjoyed COD4 but felt MW2 was overrated and overhyped. Besides, after playing BC2 multi, I'm never ever touching another COD game. And with BF3 looming around the corner, I know which franchise I'm gonna prefer for years to come.
