if you still get more then 60 frames per second and maxed out every other option or overkill?

Ehhhh, no? at 1920x1080p its almost inhumanly difficult to spot jaggies when you use 8 X AA. infact, from where I sit with my 23" I cannot see any jaggies whatsoever at 4 X AA 1080p res. 64X AA is a gimmick.
I'd love to see any PC able to do 64x AA at a decent resolution, with every other setting on high as the TC mentioned. :)CellAnimationI was playing Mafia 2. The game doesn't have any customization on AA so I went to the Nvidia Control Panel and forced 64x AA to test it out. It was running between 62 and 80 frames per second. The temps for both cards were around 68-72C-ish.
If youre maxing out your resolution on a display with more than 100 PPI anything more than 4X AA is pretty pointless. Although some people swear by AA I would rather keep my frames and stick to my native res.
I wonder how much GPU and Memory grunt you would need to enable 64X AA on a modern game?

The reason it runs well is because you dont actually have it enabled. Mafia 2 doesnt run AA at all in Nvidias contol pannel unless you go about renaming the .exe to Jericho.exe anyway. In ATi its even more difficult to pull off. Your frames are great because frankly, AA isnt being rendered at all. Have fun getting that game to run at 32x AA let alone 64x XD Benchmarks show that its more graphically demanding than many people think, Toms hardware has some numbers and even at 16x AA on 5xx series Nvid cards its not at 60.ColdfireTrilogyand that can be the reason as well....haha
As said above, if your framerates are good with 64xaa enabled then you may as well use it.
Even at 2560x1440 i can see a difference between 8x and 64x. Especially in games with lots of foliage. It isaminor difference, however if your framerate dictates you can use 64x then do it.
64xaa only applies to people with sli. As it actualy disables sli performance for the game. Basically it then renders the game at 32xaa on one card, then uses the second card to double that up.
With pc game graphics being stagnent for a while 99% of games will run at 1080p with 32xaa at 60fpson a 460 and above.
Phil.
I believe it depends a lot on the game ub question.
Take Riddick: Dark Athena for example. That one is guaranteed to run badly with AA enable and it's not very well implemented either. Forcing it through Nvidia control panel solves the performance issue but taking it up to SLI mode 16xQ still does'nt eliminate all jaggies at 1920*1080.
I personally don't see much improvement above 8xAA.. (at 1680x1050) and its even less apparent at higher resolutions.
Anything higher is just running your system, and (using more energy) than is necessary. (so technically you are actually paying for, well no improvement, because you have to pay for power, in this current obsolete society)
So if you see no improvement, don't waste energy, and pay extra... (most of consumer products today are made with purposeful obsolescence in mind, especially electronics, so no need to reduce the lifespan of the product even more, if you are not really getting any benefit out of it)
Thought... a process severely under-utilized, especially in a society where more waste determines "economic" growth... promoting waste with nothing in return is completely IGNORANT!!!
i dont even think 4x AA is worth it lol
honestly I just got a new video card, and I cant really tell the difference between no AA on Crysis, and 8x AA on Crysis. Too busy sneaking around playing cat and mouse with koreans lol.

You must sit a long way away from your screen. Is is easily noticeable I mean you don't even have to be looking for the differences to notice them.[QUOTE="mrbojangles25"]You must sit a long way away from your screen. well, youre right, I guess I do notice it.
I just dont care I guess lol. I got my 1680x1050 and the days of gaming at 1024x768 are still fresh in my head, and I am thankful lol.
Its just not a big deal, and even though I can afford to have a lot of AA now, I just dont use it past 4x :P
