A 7600GT alone is better than an 8600GT and costs a whole lot less. The 8600 series are absolute garbage, and the way they are performing right now in DX9 mode, pretty much means that they'll be utterly useless as DX10 cards.
The 7900GS is comparable to the 8600GTS, but is still better and once again costs a lot less.
My gamng life stops at DX9. I'm not getting Vista or DX10 cards / games. It's all too much.
So a 7900gs is OK, but a pay few extra $$ for a 7950gt.

Bahh 7950Gt's a bad ass card but if u want DX 10 wait a bit and go for a 8800. As far as games that run Dx10 only one i have seen is Halo 2 but u have to have Vista for that and Vistas not all that amazing to me so lol i dont have Halo 2 lolUaeamar
Dude, where the F are people getting these ideas from. Halo 2 IS NOT dx10. It's a Live game which requires Vista, but it's already been cracked for XP anyway.
The current DX10 games are CoH + patch, MS Flight Sim X and some other I cant remember.
Well, in my opinion, I would go stright ahead to a 8800GTX or a X1950XTX if you prefer ATI.
(By the way, anyone knows something about the new G98 GPU of nVidia?)
It's amazing how 5% of what was said here is true. People, I don't want to be evil or rude, but you really don't know much.
First of all, the 8600 is total ****. I was looking forward to reviews of it because I wanted to buy one, but all the benchmakrs (excluding the DX10 bench's which I won't refer to) showed that a mere 7600GT is comparable to the 8600 cards.
Second, you don't have to have vista+dx10 cards to run games like Crysis. Most of the games in the next two years WILL HAVE DX9 MODE ALONG WITH DX10 mode. dx10 is for now a nice bonus.
Third, the 7900gs is a level above the 8600GT. Let alone, a little more $$$ for the 7950gt card, and you get performance higher and higher.
Fourth, if someone is ought to buy an 8800GTX, but is an ATI fan, he won't buy the 1950XTX. That's total stupidity. He'd buy the 2900XT, but even then he won't get the same performance level (the 8800GTX is amazingly the most powerful card out there, but the 2900XT offers more value for its performance and cost).
I can keep on stomping your posts here, but I guess my point is clear.

hey i have 2 7900 gs's in my comp and it works great. Can n e 1 tell me if it supports direct X 10? and if not, does that mean i need to completely switch m,y graphics cards if i wana play Crysis on windows vista??MaStErOsHy
No it does not! Who made you even think it's possible? Even if you will have the next Microsoft's OS, it will still not have DX10. YOu will play Crysis on high details, good resolution but just in DX9. Believe me you don't really miss much. The "differences" videos are just commercials for Vista+Dx10 cards.
You will enjoy the game with XP+these 2 cards. Trust me!

It's actually cracked for XP already.

really? why didn't you stop at DX8? or DX7? if you wanna play games with PC, you need to keep up with this stuff.
i haven't heard people say "i'm still using my Windows 3.11 and i'm not gonna spend my money for those expensive updates!", but why now when Vista comes out?
everyone will be eventually forced to update, or live in the past. just like allways before.
back to topic; i'd say get 7900GS. i hear it's a little faster.
8600; next-gen features + with previous-gen performance = useless combination. propably won't even run any DX10 games on medium settings.

I'm playing UT2004 using my 3.11 - What's wrong with that?

go look up some newer benchmarks, they show 8600GT clearly better than 7600GT in every case and significantly better than a 7900GS in the newer games(oblivion, stalker, rainbow 6 vegas).

That's one benchmark against every other websites benchmark that clearly show the 7900GS and 7600G beating out the 8600 series.
