I never understood the complaint about heat.Zaral_1
GPU's that run hot don't have nearly as much overclocking headroom as GPU's that run cooler ;) But with reference GTX 560 Ti or faster nVidia cards, you'll overheat the VRM's or voltage controller before you overheat the GPU anyway. You really need to heatsink the VRM's or get a custom, non-reference card with a more robust power design to get the most out of a GTX 560 Ti, GTX 570, or GTX 580...

The 480 is a great card - anyone who says otherwise is an idiot.

okay it scarfs power, stock fan is noisy as a ---- and the heat it generates can cook an egg in 2 hours

but yet when i had the stock hsf on it highest temps i saw were 70c? let alone now with my WC i barley gover over 45c on load yea... i'm pretty sure it can cook an egg

100c can cook an egg in 3 minutes, I am sure 70c can cook it within 2 hours

570 uses the same electricity but is 30 percent faster.

Please stop...

yes please..... your spewing nonsense once again

please stop what? If you can't handle the fact that the 480 is a garbage card then get lost. The 6970/570 are better card than the 480 gtx, because even if it is about the same performance wise, it uses less power to get there. That means you can sli 2 cards on a lower rated power supply...Also all of you who are even debating this are closet nvidia fanboys....especially valentine who does nothing but jerk off to nvidia 24/7. Who cares about power usage?? What kind of retarded statement is that lol

The temperature that water boils has nothing to do with the temperature something cooks.

Worst analogy ever.

Who on this forum really cares about power draw? Almost everyone here has 500w+ PSUs.

kraken2109

800 here, but I'm thinking of crossfiring later on. Probably overkill now though.

Nobody has ever called me a fanboy and I have never bashed AMD cards or favoured either company. So saying that about me Blazin is pretty pathetic.

A GTX 480 is only $250 now, and it's much faster than the similarly priced GTX 560 Ti. I honestly see no problem with someone buying a GTX 480 right now, especially at such a low price point. Don't get me wrong, I agree that the GTX 570 is the better card, but it's also nearly $100 more than the similarly performing GTX 480...

You guys who care so much about power consumption should kindly get a gaming laptop first and then talk like you actually care about power consumption.

And btw the 480 is actually faster than 6970.

I guess now we know how much the 6970 sucks cuz it's slower than the GARBAGE 480.

Maybe power costs nothing in the caves in the desert where you live, but in civilization we really do need to take power consumption into account, something like a 480 that will use a lot of power will cost a couple hundred dollars more over the life of the card.

$200?? Oo.. A pretty heavily used GTX 480 would only cost about $5 more to run per year than an identically used GTX 570.. Let's take a look at the actual science here... Intel Core i7-965 processor Asus P6T V2 X58 motherboard 6GB Corsair DDR3 1,600MHz RAM Corsair X128 120GB SSD Corsair HX1000W PSU nVidia GTX 570 _____________ 330w maximum power consumption Intel Core i7-965 processor Asus P6T V2 X58 motherboard 6GB Corsair DDR3 1,600MHz RAM Corsair X128 120GB SSD Corsair HX1000W PSU nVidia GTX 480 _____________ 376w maximum power consumption Total system draw with a GTX 570 at 100% usage 5 hours per day 200 days per year at a cost of $0.10 per Kwh.. 330x5=1650/1000=1.65x0.1=0.165x200=$33 per year Total system draw with a GTX 480 at 100% usage 5 hours per day 200 days per year at a cost of $0.10 per Kwh.. 376x5=1880/1000=1.88x0.1=0.188x200=$37.6 per year $37.6 - $33 = $4.6 dollars more per year

lol, I really wasn't trying to insult him or anything. I was just trying to keep the information in our community as accurate as possible. Hell, nobody can be right all of the time, especially with so much misinformation being spread around the internet nowadays...

what does this thread have to do with the 6970? Everyone here knows its a faster card than the 480/570 but is lower ranked because of its lower tessellation performance. That issue has been fixed and dealth with, in the 7000 series, which is why you see the 7970 right at the TOP, so suck it.

Anyways back to topic, the 560ti 448 core has similar performance to the 480, even better once overclocked, uses half the power, puts out less heat, noise and costs about the same.

Um.. The 6970 is not an overall faster card than the GTX 480/570. I think the chart that Gambler posted just showed that :?

If it wasn't enough to show the 480/570 slightly ahead at a high res like 1920x1200, here you go-

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/HIS/Radeon_HD_6970/29.html

Looks damn even, with the 570 a point ahead. Not sure how you can think the 6970 is faster.
