I'm bored at the moment, and want a new multiplayer game that's going to last me.

CS:S is one of the most popular MP games around, and I was wondering if it was still worth buying, so I've got some questions:

1. What's the gameplay like? I've played other Source MP games like TF2 and DoD:S, and I liked them. Is the game fast-paced? Is it easy to pick up?

2. How big is the community? When will it start to dwindle?

The answer is a resounding 'Yes!'

1. The gameplay is very fast-paced and skill-based, so it's a great game to have when grow a little tired of TF2. They're so different, it's definitely worth having both.

2. The community is huge! I think CS 1.6 might even have a bigger one, but in any case, Counter-Strike (in general) has a very large community and will be around for a very long time.

Just realize, that you will get pwned a lot when you start out. But if you're a determined bloke, it's a very rewarding game to get good at.

So yes, CS:S is definitely worth buying.

It is worth it ^^ it still has a huge installbase.

I think cs:s is slower then TF2 but still not exactly "slow paced". You will likely get your behind handed to you on the reg servers, thankly there are Newbie servers where you can learn the ropes.

I think the game is still pretty fresh to play. I'm spoiled by Counter-Strike. Other non-Valve multiplayer games are hard to play because CS is just too good.

bangell99

Look at it this way, Counter-Strike (the original) was released way back in 1999, and it's still one of the most played online FPS games today :P.

Agreed. It has really solid core mechanics but given you will be pitted against pretty long term vets of the game it make take some face pounding before you start getting some kills.

about the community it will always last , 1.6 was realeased in 2003 and it's got the biggest community bigger than CSS

probly the best online fps their is, i play cod4 more because i got tired of css, cod might be a bit more action packed and easier because of the respawn times, but css builds your skill and makes you play well because the consequence of sitting out for 3 minutes is always there. most of the ppl in cod4, tf2, any other online fps that you see destroying the kill charts, started with cs.

This. If CS is the first game you play and you get good at it, all other FPS games become a breeze.

Yes

CS has been around for years and will continue its legacy and immense support online.

COD4 is just a thing of today, will be forgotten soon enough.
