I have been playing Rome: Total War again recently, and I love the colonial era. And because of this I was wondernig if the E:TW was still bugged so badly that it is unplayable? I heard it was really bad at the release, but what about now?

Don't kid yourself, the AI's inability to land armies from sea is a HUGE bug. It basically makes it impossible to lose the game as you're the only one capable of moving armies from Europe to the Americas or India. Seafaring nations like the UK, United Provinces, Spain, and Sweden are useless as AI opponents and a cakewalk if you're the one playing them.
Wait until patch 1.4 comes out, let the fanboy hype die down and then see if the game actually works before buying.
I just found the single player boring, I love it, but boring, once I start winning it seems no one contests me. I walk all across Europe, ah, man now you are making me want to play it, off I go. Although I cant play these games online I dont have 8 hours a day to play and get good.
I have tried to get into the game, but it always seems to push you in one direction with most of the surrounding AI countries declaring war on you fairly quickly without really doing anything. The last patch made diplomacy impossible no matter what you try, and sea trade is a lot more frustrating. The game has a lot of flaws that in my mind make it unplayble and I haven't touched it since. I will probably avoid any more games that they make until they do something about this one.
