I wouldn't get anything less than a 560 Ti or 6950 if you can afford it.. Requirements just get higher and higher afterall...

That's still 1,440,000 pixels though, which is only about 25% less pixels than 1080p...

Hell, I'm still doing pretty well on with 1440x900. Though, my resolution does hinder cross-map sniping. :|

wow..the opinions seem to be divided.. i dont think i will spend more than 6950 or 560, but if i can spend less but still maxing out those games then i would prefer going that route.. anyone here already using 1600x900 resolution??

A 560ti will be decent for that resolution, anything more is a plus, I dont really believe in overkill for resolutions around what your doing.

No no NO!! That is not overkill at that Res. Its not like its a massive resolution but heres the thing, maxed out, even at that res, games like Crysis, Shogun 2, Farcry 2 and certainly newer titles and titles to come like Witcher 2 and Deus Ex will still struggle to maintain a constant 60 fps on either of those cards. So it depends a bit, if you wanna play near maxed, 100% not overkill. If you are more of a "mid level" player then you would be juuuuust fine as well. But getting the better cards for that res will help the longevity of the PC as titles get more demanding. No one can argue that.

the cards will do fine at 1080 p but also at your resolution, it's not really overkill depends on what games you play. The hd 6950 1 gb is the best bang for the buck and has the same performance as the 2 gb. It's also faster than the 560 ti stock clock version and it's cheaper greetz

Depends on your budget. The 6870 probably makes the most sense from a performance-per-dollar standpoint (only a handful of games will benefit from a higher-power card at at that res), but you're obviously getting a little more future-proof card with a 6950/560 Ti. If you can swing the higher cost without sacrificing quality elsewhere I'd say go with the more powerful card, but otherwise I think most people would be happier with the 6870 and an all-around better rig.

I doubt you'll need to 2GB for most games, although a few (like GTA4) would benefit. If it's not much more money it might be a good idea, but if it is I wouldn't bother. I think if you get the 2GB you might be able to flash to a 6970 though, but i'm no expert in that area.

the 2gb model of a 6950 will do better than the 1gb model at comparable antialiasing levels more video memory the higher you can max your post processing effects = nicer picture and the less the core clock and shaders will have to devote to the post processing its vitally important to have mroe video memory if your gonna have a multi monitor setup , thats one of the reasons the 5970 didnt do so well was because it only had 1gb of video memory to devote to post processing per gpu

ID say go with the 2gb causethey have a higher success rate ofbiosflashing to 6970 andyou can make the pciture look nicer and you can always upgrade your screen personally i use a an LG tv

andGTR* the 560ti and 6950 are the sweet spot of the graphics card industry the perfect price to performance ratio they can handle any game on the market and future ones to boot at medium to high settings

WOW, I was being sarcastic... if TC wanted, he/she could get a GTX590 or 6990 and not have it overkill.
