It's usually better just to get a new card. For instnace if you have a 8600 GT, it's better to actually buy a 8800 GT or 3870 then to SLI two 8600 GT's. I only reccomend SLI/Crossfire for the mid-high end cards and if you're playing at a resolution of 1440x900 or higher.karasill
That, and SLi is not really utilized by very many games as of yet. Yes it's a great techn0logy, but if you installed a crap pile of games on your computer and found out that only a very few of them will actually increase in performance with SLI, you'd be pretty pissed.
Just upgrade to a better card... I'm going from SLI'd 7900GT's to a single 8800GTS and I expect drastic visual improvements and performance.

Most games that are 2 years old or newer ussually support SLI/Crossfire.So for Crossfire/SLI to be worth it, you would need two $200+ video card? Does it age well?thecasualnoobThey usually last a good generation (18 months). So if you were to SLI two 8800 GT's or Crossfire two 3870's it would last you well into next year in terms of playing games at max settings.
This is my thoughts on the matter.
I own a crossfire mobo, I would say SLI and Crossfire is future-prof, when GFX price goes down I can buy another and run a crossfire rig instead of buy better card and junk the old one.
(As for now I have a HD3850 and they will drop in price quite soon and then I'll put two of those In CF.)
Many games utilise CF/SLI, most newer games does, maybe not flawless but they do.
And by all new drivers and game updates poppi´n out every month or so games that utilize CF/SLI usually get improvements as CF and SLI get more and more popular these day´s.
