an average washingmachine uses 700W to run it's cycle, now put that in perspective with some of your 350W and 400W idling computer just to keep your computer going. That's like keeping all your lights on in the house while you sleep. I don't know about it affecting your performance on your computer but i'd think people would be more enviromentally conscious. your really wasting alot of oil here unless your running your comps on solar panels.

Downloading and saving the world aside, generally there is no reason to leave the computer on when you aren't using it. It increases your electrical bill, and it does contribute to global warming, whether you like it or not.

Why wouldn't you WANT to save money and help the environment if you aren't using your computer?

It doesn't really make sense to leave it on if its not running anything. And just think if everyone in the world turned off their PCs when they weren't using them...we would collectively save an incredible amount of money/damage to our planet.

Um I'd love to see you try and prove that people leaving their computers on contributes to global warming. You do realize that the same loons that are hyping up the myth that is man-made global warming are the same individuals that we warning everyone about global cooling like 25 years ago. Explain to me why Mars' ice caps are melting at a similar rate as ours are. Also while you are at it explain why there is actually more ice forming on our planet than is being melted off. It is just moving to other locations.

Nothing us humans can do will stop global warming, just as nothing we did started it. We may be making it speed up, but we didn't start it and it is too late to stop it.

Why would you want to leave a PC on 24/7 ?

You guys must be so lazy.

Cdscottie

Because some people download large files while they sleep and do tasks on the system while they are awake. I find myself downloading music/movies a lot and require to keep my PC on overnight. Thank god I have a laptop so I don't overheat my room.

not i. i wake up and my room is like an oven sometimes from my pc

My computer would drive me insane if I left it on. It is three feet from my head when I sleep, so even though it is pretty quiet it still gets annoying.

buecase it shoorting life of parts by 2x times..

then yeah you can keep it running 24/7..

Well that's funny, I was always under the impression that constantly turning on and off your components (namely fans and HDD's) will shorten the life more than leaving them on.

But I guess I'll abandon conventional wisdom because you seem so sure of yourself.

What am I trying to say? Of course it's okay to leave your PC on 24/7. What do you think servers do?
