When it's off but the red light is still on?

The red light merely represents the fact that your TV is in stand-by mode. It definitely will not hurt to unlug the TV, this merely eliminates the TV from drawing any electricity. Leaving it plugged in will allow it to draw a minimal amount of current until you decide you are ready to watch TV. Some sets are now even coming with a switch on the back to keep them from drawing any power until the switch is set to the "on" position.
Edit: Basically the switch serves the same purpose as unplugging the device.
Well I used to turn off my old TV from the power button on the TV(it did have a remote but I wanted it completely off). Now, on my new TV, it doesn't seem to make difference whether I turn it off from the remote or the power button on the TV. The red light stays on nonetheless. And that means aging, doesn't it? I just want my new TV to have a nice long life cycle.
the red light is using the stored energy in the capacitors in the power adaptor plug etc. and its in standby. a simple fix is to put wire tape over the light to stop bothering youWell I used to turn off my old TV from the power button on the TV(it did have a remote but I wanted it completely off).
